Two dogs were found shot to death just off a hiking trail in Anderson County. Now animal advocates are offering a reward to find out who's responsible.
The bodies were found Thursday at the Norris Watershed recreation area, near Norris Dam State Park. The dogs were taken to a local vet, who found they were each shot once in the head at close range. Now people in Norris are wondering, why would someone do this and are other animals or people in danger?
Amanda Spoon and her son Evan, 5, were out enjoying the beautiful weather at the Norris Watershed Thursday when Evan saw something just off the trail. Spoon went to investigate and found two dead dogs: a male black lab puppy about four months old and a female beagle about two years old.
"It made me sick. It made me so sick," Spoon said. It looked to her like the dogs had been dumped there very recently. "My first thought was, is someone around? It kind of scared me," Spoon said.
Christina Eich, who works with the local shelter, took the bodies to a local vet to be examined. "I would say that up until that point they were probably very well cared for, well fed," Eich said. Now Eich is on a mission to find out who the dogs belonged to and who shot them.
