http://bangordailynews.com/2014/02/26/politics/maines-natural-resource-agencies-chiefs-say-medicaid-is-gutting-their-departments/AUGUSTA, Maine Gov. Paul LePages administration on Wednesday made clear its fierce opposition to a new Republican-led compromise plan on Medicaid expansion and said the administration would not participate in any negotiations on the bill.
If expansion is on the table, absolutely not, said Mary Mayhew, commissioner of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, when asked whether there was any room for compromise.
During a large press conference, Mayhew was joined by the commissioners of the states natural resource agencies, who said growth in the states Medicaid program was eating away at their budgets.
The natural resource commissioners from the Departments of Agriculture, Marine Resources, Environmental Protection and Inland Fisheries & Wildlife dont often get involved with policy debates outside their agencies. Their involvement in the Medicaid expansion debate represented the strongest push yet by LePage to gain traction with his core message in recent weeks: that Medicaid spending is cannibalizing other state programs.

More outlandish and laughable lies from the LePage Regime.

Governor LePage files false Medicaid claim
Governor Paul LePage tossed out a whopper yesterday. Here it is, in his own words.
Because Maine already expanded welfare a decade ago, Medicaid is now cannibalizing funding from all other state agencies. That means the state cannot adequately promote fishing and hunting programs or conduct research on our fisheries.
DIF&W LogoThe truth is that Maines Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife gets no public funding, doesnt, hasnt, wont. Its impossible that the Governor doesnt know this because I met with him twice before he was elected to discuss this and other issues of importance to sportsmen. Its been a constant complaint from sportsmen for decades.
At yesterdays news conference, LePage trotted out his Commissioners from the Natural Resources Departments to make his case. That is really unfortunate. I wasnt there, but Im told that DIF&W Commissioner Chandler Woodcock was entertaining and engaging. That could not have been easy on this issue.

(27,665 posts)2. Maine’s Paul LePage Might Just Be the Worst Governor of All
When Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington released its report on The Worst Governors in America last summer, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was not even on the list. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker did make the cronyism, mismanagement, nepotism, self-enrichment list, but the review of his tenure was not necessarily the most scathing in CREWs assessment of Republicans and Democrats who had gone astray. And Ohio Governor John Kasich was ranked as nothing more than a sideshow.

Meet Maine Governor Paul LePage, who ranked in the very top tier of CREWs worst list with this review:
Now, the federal investigation has been completed, and LePage is still very much in the worst governor competition. A report from the US Department of Labor Office of the Solicitor General concluded that LePage and his appointees meddled with the process by which unemployment claims are reviewedapparently with an eye toward advantaging employers and disadvantaging the jobless.

Meet Maine Governor Paul LePage, who ranked in the very top tier of CREWs worst list with this review:
The first-term governor packed his administration with lobbyists and used his office to promote their environmental-deregulation agenda, and allegedly went so far as to fire a state employee who testified in favor of policies the administration opposed.
Gov. LePage also attempted to gut his states open records act, and is under investigation by the federal government for trying to bully employees of the state Department of Labor into deciding more cases in favor of business.
