People who don't get humor shouldn't try to regulate it for the rest of us. That would be like me trying to ban sports something I don't like, know nothing about and would be very happy to live the rest of my life without. But why would I want to deny others having the enjoyment of it?

Comedian Patton Oswalt has come to the defense of soon-to-be Daily Show host Trevor Noah, who, shortly after the announcement was made that he would be succeeding Jon Stewart, was blasted for so-called "offensive tweets" he wrote several years ago.

First off, if you haven't seen a lot of Trevor Noah's stuff, check out the video of him in the player above. Yes, he makes a lot of racially-based jokes, but they work to further some really interesting points about nationality and race and give insight into his own fascinating background. Plus, they're funny, which, in case anyone forgot, is the point of comedy.

Now, back to Patton Oswalt: if you follow him on Twitter, then you know he is one of the most opinionated comedic voices on social media. And regardless of his target, he always finds a brilliant and creative angle to make his point. This time is no different. Last night, the 46-year-old comedian threw down out an epic 53-tweets-long response to the Trevor Noah controversy that pretty well sums up the issue with trying to censor comedy that could be perceived as offensive to certain groups.

The show will rise or fall based on what that host actually does. Endlessly trying to "make" the host this or that, or second-guessing the choice, is pointless. The host will - or won't - make the show, not the other way around.

I remember the Daily Show when Craig Kilborn hosted it. It was, basically, dead air compared to what Stewart did with it.

It's possible the new person will merely try to fill Stewart's shoes and mimic his format, but that wouldn't really be true to the spirit of how JS himself handled inheriting the thing.

I could be wrong.

Bill Maher spends all night arguing with a republican hooker was sort of funny. That was more of a rip on Bill Maher than a sexist joke. But when it comes to sexism, Bill Maher deserves a little bit of ragging, because he has made a few sexist comments over the years (although he has gotten better).

The one about the local jew feels left out of Worldwide Jewish Conspiracy was pretty clever. I did not see antisemitism in that one, but then I'm not jewish, either. It struck me as meaning What "Jewish Conspiracy"?! Since it's just a myth.

I did see some that were not at all funny, because they were too sexist or bigoted, though. I dislike that you ask us to click on links to unfunny stuff, thereby giving them hits.
