I like to think I have an informed opinion, having trained under Del and Donny in the 80s.
TN is not a strong comedy writer. He may be the smoothest on camera comedic actor. Who knows? He may have the elusive, awesome gift of perfect timing (can't be taught). Haven't seen him enough to know that, yet.
The juvenile, cheap, shocky jokes he tweeted indicate a severe inability to write good comedy extemporaniously. HUGE! PROBLEM! Highschool jock jokewriters like him SUCK at interviewing guests and other interactions. He can thinks on his feet at about a level 3 and that job requires an 8. There goes half the show! Perhaps theyll change the show's format.
He was immature when he tweeted these tasteless "jokes" - perhaps a he is more sophisticated now - but it doesn't look promising. Stay tuned.

(14,733 posts)and when I read he was South African, I had some hazy memory of a white guy who was on the show a time or two, and I was wondering "why him?" I apparently was thinking of the wrong South African, but the "Why him?" still seems entirely appropriate. Frankly, any of the long-time commenter types on the show seem like they would have been a better fit. Jessica Williams would have been my first choice if they'd stayed with the cast, but even John Hodgeman would seem to have been a better possibility. Somebody in another thread suggested Wanda Sykes. While I think she could have done a great job, I'd almost swear I remember a Wanda Sykes show in the past that kinda bombed. But she STILL seems like she'd be a better choice for American audiences than some SA comedian almost nobody in the US has even heard of.
