say that this could lower the price of oil worldwide which would cause economic turmoil. What is the problem with these people
In retrospect I am sure glad he didn't make it to the WH

(39,961 posts)and oil prices are in the tank, and a war with Iran would have driven those profits per barrel to the sky.
That is behind the machinations of Cotton and company.

He might have been paid off.

(39,961 posts)It will keep the price of oil lower worldwide, and it will cause economic turmoil.
He neglects that it will cause economic turmoil for the oil speculators, the .01%, the Kochs and the MIC. Everybody else? Things might actually improve for us because we also won't be sending our blood and treasure over to the Middle East to throw away at our country's expense.

(67,112 posts)oil prices, the threat of war and wars make big bucks for the MIC. So much of the human race is really inhumane, like totally F'ed up. And as a kid I used to think older people had their shit together, how, I misjudged so many people. So many adults and particularly those in leadership positions are bozos.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)more than anything to keep oil prices high. When it sinks, it's like every oil speculator/neo-con loses their collective brain and want to do anything, anything at all to make energy expensive.
It has gotten so money-hungry and obvious, that they really don't even hide it, just gin up stories about how the little people are the reason why greed, sloth and violence are "sins" if they are carried out by the likes of anyone beside the 01%.
If you aren't genuflecting to Halliburton, bowing to Northrup Grumann, DynCorp (the ones busted for operating a pedophile sex ring in Afghanistan) and Raytheon, etc.
You just aren't American enough.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)from entities that are DYING to send Americans over to die in Iran in what will most certainly end in the demise of our nation, is sickening.

However I think any more drop in oil price will be corrected to at least to where we currently sit.

(39,961 posts)of alternative energy sources and reject fracking as anything more than an experiment in destroying the environment, I'm not displeased by this outcome.
I think oil prices will stabilize a bit lower, and as a world, we have learned the value of investing in alternative energy sources and that will hasten our independence from oil.
Stir up a war in Iran, stir up destruction of the Venezuelan economy, and you *might* drive oil prices a bit higher, but the point is that we are moving away from oil dependency, should and finally are. That's the real beef most folks have with the Carter Presidency. He wanted to ween us off of the ME oil teat.
That's the beef Cheney, Cottons house of Clowns, and the assorted oil profiting thugs have, too.
They want oil prices sky high. They want turmoil, war and military engagements where oil is produced to encourage that outcome.
The problem is that they have gotten so greedy, and the Iraq war disaster on top of it, that the general public is onto the scheme.
Beef prices are through the roof. North Dakota should go back to what North Dakota does best. It isn't as much easy money, but it is a reliable source of income and use of renewable resources.
Easy money from oil isn't going to happen anymore. There is too much diversification.

(9,002 posts)There's a tangible downstream effect when the price tumbles. Most of the people that lose jobs and see their paychecks decline are far from lighting cigars with Benjamins.

(12,647 posts)Your neo-liberal slip is showing. What kind of economic system do we have if war and death is avoided, and a peaceful agreement brings economic turmoil? Oh, that's right, the Third Way are tied to the hip with the Koch brothers and oil interests, and it is their interests you're oh so concerned about. I'm sure lower prices at the pump will cause a devastating economic turmoil for them. But Bill, please do try and be a bit happy for the little people who will get some relief from lower prices at the pump.

(28,552 posts).... cause "economic turmoil" that is only because of the mal-investments of the speculators. Made a bet that oil would be over $80 forever? Ramped up production of expensive-to-extract oil a decade or two too soon? Learned nothing from the downturn in housing and its aftermath?
Well you are an idiot and in free market economies your penalty is bankruptcy.

(9,748 posts)Supposedly the Clintons hate Emanuel now because he stayed neutral in the 2008 primary instead of backing them.
Emanuel was the ONLY Chicago politician who did not endorse Obama. He withheld his endorsement out of loyalty to the Clintons. But that isn't good enough for the Clintons. Emanuel is now dead to them.
Richardson, of course, recognized early that Obama was going to win. So he endorsed whom he knew was going to win. The Clintons can not accept that this is just how politics work. To them it is a personal slight. Hence, the idiotic "Judas" comment. Stuff like that make the Clintons look petty and weak to most people. Yet you see their supporters repeating it because, in their world view, this is awesome badassery on the part of the Clintons.

(9,748 posts)After all, out of loyalty to Clinton, Rahm was the only Chicago pol to withhold his endorsement of Obama. If they feel betrayed by Rahm not endorsing Hillary, Obama has just as much right to feel betrayed himself.
Actually, I never got the impression that Obama cared much for Rahm. I always suspected he hired Rahm as Chief of Staff as a way of connecting to the Clintons. But I don't think that was because of Rahm's failure to endorse him. I think they just have differing philosophies. Rahm has always been about the money. I thnk Obama wanted to make a difference.
Beacool
(30,253 posts)At least not enough to pronounce that the Clintons looked petty and weak to "most" people. Suffice it to say that Richardson lied to Bill and did backstab him, to the point that he still refuses to have anything to do with him. Friends don't look at friends in the eye and lie to them. Richardson's endorsement was self serving, he had his hopes on becoming Obama's SOS. Well, that didn't work too well for him. He neither became a member of Obama's cabinet, nor did he recover Bill's friendship.
As for Rahm, everything is cool with him. No hard feelings.

(21,786 posts)low oil prices are already causing deflation; low oil prices are also leading to large capital losses for oil producers heavily invested in shale (which isn't economical to produce with low prices). This will have the effect of taking several millions of barrels a day of shale oil out of production, lowering total output and leading to higher prices due to demand pressures. Restarting all that shut-down production becomes harder when a lot of small drillers and producers are leveraged up to the eyeballs and left unable to pay back loans due to the price decline. In case you've forgotten, high oil prices were one of the major contributors to the 2008 financial crash.
Apparently the "problem with these people" is that they actually have an understanding of economics.
