This Iran deal ain't no used car. This is a shiny new Caddy straight off the production floor, redolent with that new-car smell, and a joy to behold.
THIS is what I voted for.
This is history.
Well done, sir, and thank you.

(81,550 posts)Glad you're here! I'm loving it, too. Don't know which part of it I like more - the hard work and accomplishment for Team Obama, or how miserable and Sore-Loserman the GOP tantrums are, in reaction. The latter may actually fuel my glee more than the former!
And for Will Pitt - "ain't no used car" - you rascal, you!!!!

(9,748 posts)I've heard cheering, but no details.
1. Iran destroys all weapons grade nuclear capabilities.
2. Iran permits international inspects unfettered access. No country has ever gone that far before.
3. World lifts economic sanctions after inspectors verify that Iran has met their end of the bargain.
4. Sanctions remain lifted as long as inspections continue.
I've heard booing by Republicans, but no details.
1. Iran is not privatizing their oil fields.
I am sure you noticed that not one Republican complaining about the deal has mentioned exactly what we did not get. It is a good bet you never will. They are not likely to tell you:
a. with Iran's nuclear program shut down, we no longer have a valid excuse for economic sanctions, and
b. without sanctions we have no leverage for forcing Iran to hand over their oil fields to Exxon and Shell, therefore
c. this deal is bad because we wanted that oil!
Fuck the nukes. We always knew Iran wouldn't be stupid enough to do anything with nukes. But Obama just surrendered our leverage for getting their oil for Exxon and Shell.

(39,961 posts)They wanted a war in the Middle East to drive up the low oil prices. Low oil prices are a disaster for the Kochs, oil speculators and oil companies. Couple that with the fact that there is no shiny new war for the MIC to drain treasure for, and it is a shitty day to be a Republican, part of the .01%, and oil companies.
And the rest of us are laughing all the way to the gas pump.

(59,507 posts)You are right this is history. Both Obama, who wanted a different foreign policy and Kerry, who spoke of wanting Vietnam to be remembered as where the country turned, was fortunate to work tirelessly for a President willing to take the huge risk and the known hits that were sure to come when rejecting the neo con path we have been on so long.
I love that both of them are who they are.

(861 posts)and it is quite an achievement.
This deal could actually lead to bigger steps such as resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict, which would cause a lot of the tension to dissolve in the Middle East.
This deal is potentially a huge step for peace, world-wide.

Once he got slapped down a few times with that "bipartisan" approach, he got up off the mat for the fifth or sixth time and started punching back. He has really made the do-nothing Congress look foolish, and I don't think he's through yet. He just looks better and better, every day. I'm waiting for him to close Guantanamo Bay.

rhett o rick
(55,981 posts)march in lock-step. I like the president and have since before he was elected. But I am a Democrat and I think it's my responsibility to resist idol worship and hold my elected representatives accountable. I notice that some here are quick to jump in when the President says or does something progressive, but if the president says or does something that is conservative they don't debate the issue for his side but rely completely on ad hominem attacks against those that might dare to disagree. Like fracking or the TPP. Pres Obama supporters rarely enter debates on these issues.
Seems to me that those here that have a hard spot for Will is because they hate his independence. Conservatives hate independent thinkers they prefer idol worship and lock-step obedience.

(12,482 posts)I have had this presidents back through the good times and the bad. People that jump on bandwagon when things look good suck. Those who do it in a condescending tone suck worse. Those who do those things and have a history of drunken threats totally suck. Those are general statements and any resemblance to anyone is purely coincidental.

(47,209 posts)That "all the same to me, might as well not vote" crap is often seen here. Because capitalism has too much influence in our system and if they just decline to participate in it, it'll change things. Yup.
LOL at linking, because it's fun to alert on those "call outs".
rhett o rick
(55,981 posts)as you claim. You said that specific quote is "spewed" here regularly. I am curious why some here continue to push that false meme.
A number of people here state that both Parties are heavily influenced by corporate (Goldman-Sachs) money, but I don't think I've ever seen that quote that you are claiming. It isn't a call out to provide a link.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)Lol. Same bullshit. I don't have anything but guffaws for anyone praising Palin as an honest person. (Which is why I'm not taking your bait and linking)
Plenty of folks here twist themselves into pretzels daily to discredit this- and future- Dem presidencies and you just gotta laugh. They obviously took a wrong turn while surfing the net.
rhett o rick
(55,981 posts)I am guessing your total loyalty to the Pres blinds you to reality. 22% of American children live in total poverty and 45% of American children live in lower income homes. Sorry if I don't share your blind loyalty. Goldman-Sachs helped rip off American taxpayers for a trillion dollars and yet they get a seat at the head table. Holder kisses their hand while throwing medical marijuana dispensers in prison. No one says that the parties are the same. But lots of people say that Goldman-Sachs has lots of influence in both parties.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)Others here can see that there is good and bad in most office holders, always has been. We have no fantasies about a savior - whether it be Warren or Obama. Life's a bit more complicated than that.
rhett o rick
(55,981 posts)But I also see gray areas and areas where I completely disagree with his stand. Like fracking, which will probably poison our drinking water and I don't support it. The President and H. Clinton and the conservative wing of the Party think fracking is wonderful and it is the "bridge to our future energy needs."
But there are those that not only don't ever criticize ANY of his stands, but they disparage those that do, which sounds kinda "worshipy to me". Why disparage those that are being honest Democrats and stating their opinions when they happen to disagree with the President? Why insist that we all agree with every policy he has?
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)Concerned about drones and Middle East policy as you've maintained on the past. Perhaps it was just a cudgel, and we all know many here will miss having that ammo against Obama. If you can't acknowledge this historic acheivement without playing the "yes, but" game, you have to wonder what you're actually so concerned about. Others already do.
rhett o rick
(55,981 posts)(was) regularly Spewed here." I challenged that because I know that your quote isn't posted here regularly or even occasionally, in fact I am going with never. You fail to show me proof and changed the subject to accusing me of being "blind", "If you can't see any shades of gray here, you're blind." I then pointed out that I see goodness in the President and as well bad policies and a lot of gray in between. Maybe you have a hard time seeing the gray areas, you seem to never disagree with his positions.
Once again I want to point out that a Democrat holds his/her elected representatives accountable. It's easy to praise them.
I might understand the resistance to be critical of the person one chooses to lead, but I do not understand the need to disparage those that do.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)it's interesting to note who is ignoring the wonderful news. Same people who say withholding votes is a viable strategy, lol.
rhett o rick
(55,981 posts)of adulation from someone means they are ignoring the news. By the way this subthread was started by someone that wasn't hear to acknowledge the good news like the OP did, but to needle the OP author, because the OP author has been critical of the President in some posts.
Why do some think it's so important that everyone love everything the President does, to the point of disparaging those that don't?

(24,789 posts)I recall in about 2006-07 (in the wake of the Iraq war fiasco) hearing Mr. Obama's smooth dulcet tones on my radio, saying that his approach to international relations was to try to work with other nations around the world, through diplomacy, rather than going right to nuclear decimation. Imagine! This was who he was and what he stood for then. And who he continues to be.
I think we here all know - despite any disagreements we might have with him - his Presidency will stand out as one of the greatest in our times.
Definitely change I can believe in.
And of course the Republican right, along with Netanyahu, is acting like a frustrated 2-year old over it!
