Last night I contacted the local police station about some guy's youtube videos

and I'm really not sure how I feel about it. I just happened upon a disturbed person's youtube account last night after clicking on one of his comments. He had very few views and no comments on any of videos. At first his videos just seemed like another mentally ill person saying crazy things on youtube. Nothing new and hardly something to be too alarmed about. However, he posted several videos over the past few days where he seemed very agitated and was talking about performing assaults on the strongholds his neighbors built, and was discussing getting weapons and methods to take them out. He was asking why no one takes him seriously and all sorts of crazy stuff that included comments about committing violence, and even shooting police. There was video of him walking down the street talking about how he had a knife and how some dogs smelt blood on it. He also discussed a lot about ISIS and how they need to come here to get the people in the US, he has an obsession with ISIS and terrorist related videos.

I don't think he actual has any sympathy toward ISIS, or even fully grasped the reality of it all, but rather had his own narrative of what it all meant. You know? I'm not a mental health professional, but based on the schizophrenics I've been around, I'd take a stab to say that is what he's suffering from. I alerted the videos at first, which is something I've never done before. But that just didn't seem like enough, because I felt like it had potential to be something bad. So I managed to find some information out about him, and I sent a message to his local police station (in a totally different state than me) They ended up replying back and said he's well known, and they have had issue and that they are watching him, but there isn't much they can do.

Anyway, I still feel bit conflicted about if sending that message was justified or not. Deep down I feel like it was, but there is some doubt that makes me feel like I was being a busybody. This is different than the "report your neighbors for suspicious activities", right? I asked some people I know, and they all said they probably would have done the same. I'm interested to see what a wider audience has to say about it.

The other thing I think is worthy is discussion, is how should people like him be handled? The guy seems like a time bomb waiting to go off, and he's either going to hurt himself or hurt others. Yet it seems like nothing can really be done until he does something to hurt himself or hurt someone else.

*I apologize if don't reply right away to any responses. I need to try to get some real work done.

He's one among far too many. I think you did the right thing, though. If he was doing what you say he was and the locals didn't know, he could have hurt someone. I hope that if something does happen the police don't hurt him, either, and you should remember that it's not your fault if that happens. The whole situation is kinda messed up, isn't it?

posting videos on youtube is a way of getting attention. this could be his way of crying out for help. Besides, since the police replied that he is well known and they are watching him, you didn't make anything worse for him.

now, if you wake up one day to the news that he attacked his neighbors, or that an attempted attack was thwarted, you'll know you did what you could. Imagine if you hadn't send that notice, and you woke up one day and discovered he'd attacked a school full of children...

I don't know how the law reads, but making threats should be taken seriously. I just hope we don't read about this guy somewhere down the road after he's killed a bunch of people, and many were aware of those videos and no one did anything about them.

the police department you contacted will report to their mayor on the successes of their provocateur. the intel gathered by his activities have identified you as someone with similar interests; you are now being watched.

mission accomplished.
