sophistication of its delivery is an art form and individual masterpieces to their viewers, in less than an hour, Obama very bad, Mexicans very bad, minimum wage very bad, unions very bad, Muslims very bad, Easter..very good unless you disagree with the latter.
And Gov health care very bad but all the while showing commercials for catheters and drugs that your gov health care will pay for...cus you not a leach on society...just the "others" and "them".
wow.........Goebbels would be proud.
sorry, I know a great many of you know this already but I I just had to give it a shot.

YOU happen to be aware of the manipulative tactics being, pardon the expression, liberally splashed all over that God-forsaken channel's output. It's a good reminder of the propagandizing they DELIBERATELY do, 24/7/365.
Goebbels WOULD be proud. He'd be envious. And if he were still alive now, he'd be making a mint on the speakers circuit AND as a top frank-luntz-type advisor at such crackpot set-ups as the Heritage Foundation, Cato Institute, American Enterprise Institute, and more, including the RNC.

Earlier this week I dropped in on my folks and heard an earful about how Harry Reid was beaten by mafia members then concocted a workout accident as a cover story.
We also got into a tort reform discussion and I used my cousin as an example of how a $200K cap on judgements would be a bad idea.

(21,757 posts)When a commercial comes on the progressive station, I will switch over to see what the eighties are saying. They are very clever at leading people with selective and distorted information and even outright lies for which they are never challenged.
Orwells vision Of this is mild compared to what right wing media is doing in 21st century America.
And it is all done in the name of patriotism which makes it double dangerous. Their goal, without a doubt, is to destroy American. Democracy.

(148 posts)Yep, Fox News - put down Obama/Democrats/Liberals and you're guaranteed either your own talk show or a spot as a recurring "consultant."
And on that note I've been long wondering. Does anyone else think Glenn Beck put one over on Fox just to get rich? I mean, take a look at the whole body of his work - about being a clown, his defining that going to extremes to defend an extreme position as "comedy," etc. I just think he doesn't believe at least half of what he spews. It's just for the $$. I mean, look at the clip below, especially from 1:35 onward. Clearly, he thinks he is a comedian.

(11,527 posts)I was stuck watching faux noise at a restaurant this morning, one thing that's always impressed me about them is that they're very adept at running 'regular' stories in between their lies to suck viewers in. This morning they had a cute kitten story - what mean hearted person wouldn't watch a cute kitten story? And then, right after the kitten it was back to Obama - bad, Israel - good, taxes - bad, government - bad, rich people (aka job creators) - good, war - good, blah blah blah. Honestly, MSNBC should really look at copying the faux format instead of having several very smart people discussing pretty much the same three or four issues all evening.

(5,275 posts)Outright lies, copious distortions, quite selective in what they talk about/play up or not. Obama goes on vacation he's a slacker, Bush, who took way more vacation, nothing to see there. That kind of thing. Oh, stack the day with lots of hot women made up just short of hookers, and mess with the (D) or (R) designation at the bottom of the screen - as they did when they had to discuss Vitter.
What I don't get is how Shep Smith is still there, he will go off the reservation at times, I assume he has negatives on Ailes or something.
And I agree, if he's there somewhere in Hell Goebbels is applauding.
The problem is how to convince the suckers who buy this nonsense that it's propaganda and that they are being played at their own expense.

On Hannity:
All Iranians want us dead. They burn our flag (well, not exactly, the ones I saw had white stripes at the top & bottom, and 56 stars) and Obama is giving them the bomb.
The current Democratic Party is much more leftist than it used to be Left-wing policy: If you dislike America, you're probably ok "as crazy as that sounds." (Americans who dislike American hegemony are equated to Americans disliking America itself).
"Thou shalt not kill" is NOT the first commandment, it's really "Thou shalt not murder." This must be their excuse for the constant wars. I guess we're not murdering anyone?
"Hands up, don't shoot" was a lie, because Fox found a black person willing to say so on its station. Whenever they do any racist segments, they apparently make sure to have a black person who agrees with them - implicitly saying, "We're not being racist here." By the way, it's ok to call black people thugs since a black person was doing so on Fox. (They probably wish he'd gone further and used the N-word)
On O'Reilly:
The Obama administration's approach to Iran is based on "Willful ignorance" - same quote being used again and again by a former staffer (if it's from a former staffer, it must be true... Hmm, wonder why they no longer work for him, they couldn't have an axe to grind could they? If this were the other way around, Fox would immediately dismiss the person as being "disgruntled."
If the NYT editorial board says something, it's what "the left" believes.
Re trading Bergdahl for 5 Taliban fighters: "You can't put troops in harm's way on a theoretical." Of course it wasn't a theoretical that Saddam Hussein might gain control of nuclear weapons and use them against America... It's not theoretical that the released Taliban fighters will return to the battlefield and kill more Americans either, obviously that's just fact.
------
I agree, the level of sophistication is incredible, particularly on Hannity - O'Reilly is more of a blowhard.

(4,775 posts)2 days ago, phone rings, car mechanic calling, my car is ready for pickup. I ask "how late will you be there?" He says till 4:45, got to get home to see O'Reilly, then proceeds to explain to me how he used to be a Democrat, but that this Obama, he really doesn't like him, he's just completely incompetent, goes on and on about how incompetent Obama is, complaining about how hard it is to hold his new awareness when he doesn't know any other Republicans (I live in a very blue area). I explain how I don't like Obama either, but I would never even consider going over to the dark side, and that the real problem is the corporate money behind these parties.
He had very clearly been programmed by Fox to see Obama as incompetent, a weak and ineffective leader. What B.S. We can ridicule it, I often do, but it is very effective and needs to be called out, all the time. Thanks for the OP. Now I need to find a new mechanic, this one is sadly FUBAR.

In high school I had a (math) class in "Symbolic Logic".... where we learned all kids of "Fallacies of Reference" that renders statements illogical and useless.
If I were teaching such a course today, I'd have the class watch a hour or so of Fox News a week and right down all the Fallacies of Reference they could find. The students would be filling up notebooks weekly.

(1,151 posts)Who runs around claiming that the sky was falling. Then I learned about the boy who cried wolf. Thus ,at the age of 3, I was prepared for the eventual assault by the fascist rethuglacan party. I watched the nation turn to Ronald Reagon with utter disappointment knowing that he was just the reincarnation of the same disease that swept Europe down the drain some 50 years prior.
I watched the nation I had hoped was awakening after such an ugly Nixonian period slink into a selfish hateful state. But as time went on, I saw that it was always inevitable and would sink far more into the dark morass of instant gratification. While my chain smoking father condemned me to the streets in his sincere belief that pot was a dangerous narcotic and I was a deranged addict, people in those days drove drunk as a habit. The entainment industry worked feverishly to put out the flames of creativity to drive artists from art so that they could mold the business model we have today that is fox news.
