(8,515 posts)began right after 911..... just another example of reminding us how we must never forget who we are and how great our country is..Unfettered Nationalism is dangerous.. Fox still has the flag draped across the bottom of the screen practically 24/7... Im sick of it all..

(1,383 posts)You may be sick of it, I on the other hand am so damned proud to be an American that I will "wear it on my sleeve".
Sometimes I think it is a contest on this, and other liberal websites as to who can bitch the loudest about the USA, when in reality, many of us truly love this Country, and aren't afraid to say so.
And that is one thing I will NEVER, EVER let one political party take away from me! We can't let the Republicans take ownership of Patriotism just because we didn't like each and every single thing our Country has done in the past decade.
USA, USA, USA!!!!!!!!

(8,515 posts)USA USA, USA at their events in Washington...Does screaming USA in that context bother you?
and in fact that they wave numerous American Flags near the capital screaming hateful slogans at the White House.. Does that bother you? The right wing with the help of Corporations have been trying to hijack Nationalism ever since 911....The example I brought up is small part of that..

SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)Your ridiculous pear analogy aside.
I don't like what they're saying, but I'm not bothered that they're saying it. I believe in and support free speech, even speech I don't agree with.

(8,515 posts)But Im bothered when disgusting racist Obama signs show up at their events..
I support your ability to to turn the other cheek in such instances.... but I cant..
It fucking bothers me...Big Time..

(42,796 posts)Is that what you mean when you say you don't have the ability to turn the other cheek with regard to the exercise of free speech rights by others?
I don't see accepting that someone has the right to offend me as the same as turning the other cheek. When I see speech with which I disagree I don't demand that the speaker be silenced, I assert my own first amendment right to vocally disagree.

A nearby restaurant had a sign posted, saying, "Iranians Not Welcome Here".
Very ugly times here in Iowa.

(135,425 posts)I think there are things in this world to complain about, and a US flag on a sports uniform just doesn't rise to the level of something one needs to gripe about!

Flag or no flag, it doesn't bother me either way.
I don't understand why anyone would really care about something on a basketball uniform.
I think it looks cool. But, again, doesn't really affect me either way.

(45,319 posts)doing that what possible difference could costumes and accessories make? Tell me what is the freaking point of the game, of the sport at all? What is accomplished by the game and all the surrounding nonsense? How does that serve the people?
Arguing about what the actors are wearing on a soap opera is perhaps more valid than this. I mean, a soap opera employs dozens and dozens of Union members from many craft and creative Unions. College basketball means millions of bucks for the 'coaches' which could have gone to academics which should be the 'freaking point' of college.
SickOfTheOnePct
(7,290 posts)Don't know if they're union or not, but they're certainly employed.
And that millions of dollars going to coaches that could have been going to academics? If it weren't for the sports, the money wouldn't be there. It's not like they're taking money from academics to pay the coaches - the money brought in by the sports themselves are paying for the coaches.
Watching college sports, or any sports for that matter, is a personal choice. Anyone that doesn't like it doesn't have to watch it.

(146,339 posts)Why on Earth would something like this matter to you?
Maybe you can explain how it's a problem, somehow.
Guess what? They'll be playing the National Anthem before the game, too. I suspect you won't be there to turn your back on that, either. My suggestion is that you not watch the game on TV tomorrow.
