Paris plans to become world cycling capitalhttp://www.france24.com/en/20150405-paris-cycling-world-capital-pollution/
Paris is planning to invest 150 million to double the number of cycle paths across the city, a move it hopes will transform it into the cycling capital of the world and help solve the French capitals pollution problem.
Unveiling the proposals on Thursday, Pariss City Hall said the investment could see the number of journeys made by bike in the capital triple from five percent of all journeys currently to 15 percent by 2020.
The centrepiece of the scheme is a new cycle express way: more than 80km of two-way cycle paths following some of Pariss main avenues and spanning the city from north to south and from east to west.
Other cycle paths outside this main axis will be added and expanded, doubling the total length of cycle paths over the next five years to 1,400km.

A year's subscription for unlimited bike use starts at 19 ($25).

(22,674 posts)the population is still breeding without restriction. You can put in place all the 'save this' 'save that' policies you want, but humans consume. We're conditioned from childhood that you grow up, get a job, get a car, marry and pro-create. Economics and marketing teaches us the stereotype that growth is good and everything else is bad.
We've lost sight of what's really important and the willpower to address the increasingly, if not impossible challenges for our species that lie ahead.
