I don't trust many sources anymore for news and would love to hear what others think.

(5,018 posts)there is only one side to something like a news story, the truth.
The right has been making shit up and lying for so long they have convinced us that they have a "side" of a story or of the truth.
They dont.
They claimed for years that all media was liberal. The reason they claimed this is they didnt like the truth.
They still dont.
Not picking on you, stil_one i just took this opportunity to point this out using your post.

(92,479 posts)doctrine was all about. Because of the telecommunication act of 2000, the fairness doctrine no longer exists

(29,503 posts)it seems to me, i.e., Google News,
Certainly, they aren't investigating real stories; they are doing far right-wing propaganda (i.e., Lara Logan, who is back for duty after that disgraceful piece of garbage she did on Benghazi), celebutante interviews; etc.
There are a handful of journalists who I do trust - Anderson Cooper and Candy Crowley are two I can think of ATM. But otherwise, I get my news on an ad hoc basis.

BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)sometimes they get it right, most times it's propaganda, and it's up to us these days to separate the wheat from the chaff to get to the truth.

(17,602 posts)not only does lbn bring breaking news to me faster than any one source could, it comes complete with links so i evaluate the agenda and spin accordingly.
JustABozoOnThisBus
(23,375 posts)There should be something wrong with getting news from an admittedly biased source.
But you're right. LBN brings up a wider range of news stories and topics than any other source I can think of. It's a good source and a valuable service.
Yes, I have seen Free Republic. Their "news" is much stranger than LBN's.

Compared to some sites.

(52,399 posts)and du is actually pretty balanced. we post lefty news to make us happy, but we also post right-wing stories so we know what to get angry about in fact, du earned its initial following out of democrats upset at all the pro-shrub stories. we all came here to have some camaraderie in our outrage.
but, while any poster might be biased, the link tells you the real story bias, whether it's coming from cnn or nytimes or the guardian or whatever. true, there's some bias in editing and bias in selecting which stories to post, but i think we actually get a good balance of posted stories.
the real bias is in the replies, because, hey, it is a democratic site after all.

(60,010 posts)No tv, no radio....but internet works great.
DU for headlines on up to date issues and events, at a glance.
Breaking News dot com for ...breaking news.
and for depth and background, Global English language newspapers, and quite a few topical sites and blogs, such as Democracy Now,
and magazine sites..Rolling Stone, Atlantic, etc.
on line tv stations for immediate news of storms, etc in various areas are very helpful.

(30,481 posts)with more than just a "no one." NPR would be my most trusted current news source. I like how they often use reporting from people on the ground asking questions. They often get the human side of the story along with the political issues.

Full Disclosure, we cooperated with them on a story to come from San Diego though VICE. I suspect we might work together as well, as that story continues to evolve.
Sadly, most folks do not know who VICE is these days...

(95,337 posts)Really? Do I need a news channel that is going to bend the news in favor of my opinion? Do I need a liberal version of Faux News?
I'd rather just have the news provided to me without any opinions expressed and let me decide for myself how I feel about it. But those days are long since gone.
I will use MSNBC for watching such events as the Conventions and Election returns where I would prefer the hosts to be cheering on my team. I will admit that much.
BTW this is why MSNBC will never catch up to Faux in the ratings. I think I am not alone when it comes to watching a Cable News channel that is slanted towards my viewpoints. Sure the Faux has loyal viewers who turn in every night because they are none so bright to learn their talking points and need someone to teach it to them. It's funny because when you try to argue with a teabagger they all use the same exact argument on any given topic. But the progressives, they prefer forming their own opinions which is why they have not formed any loyalities to MSNBC the way the right has to Faux.

(10,893 posts)MSNBC, BBC.com, DU, and occasionally CrooksandLiars or Comedy Central (whenever I'm back home and remember to watch). I would also watch Al Jazeera, except I'd have to pay extra for that channel. As for the other networks listed, they are a personal no-no, especially CNN and FOX.

I also read a lot of books, and while books certainly don't give you breaking news, they enable me to be extremely well informed about certain topics.

(45,319 posts)A great deal of that which is discussed on DU as 'news programming' is in fact commentary and discussion programming, not news but editorial. Even if you agree with the views, an editorial is not the news. It's just not. And so on.

Others include the New York Times, the Guardian, Democratic Underground, Huffington Post, CNN online, the LA Times, Vice & local newspapers.
If I watch tv for news I prefer c-span or clips that folks post here at DU.
