Hate Radio: No insult is Avoided, no Humor Understood

By Dr. Brian Carr

Do you feel threatened or victimized by any type of change? Are there specific people—liberals, minorities, immigrants, foreigners, feminists who are to blame for society’s ills? Do you drink from the mother’s milk of 2015 paranoia? Then Hate Radio is for you.

Hate Radio is nothing new just the same ugliness in a new wrapper. Father Charles Coughlin brought his message of hate and distrust to radio waves across America in the 1930s. With the loss of market share on the radio dial AM radio stations sought out ways to regain listeners and establish market brand. National Hate Radio was championed by early supporters like Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck.

Hate Radio has been a favorite broadcast of home-grown terrorists and extremists like Timothy McVeigh and Clive Bundy. One might recall that the white supremacist who shot up the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C was a self-described long-time fan of Hate Radio.

In 2012 the National Hispanic Media Coalition and UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center released a study showing that guests and topics discussed during "The Rush Limbaugh Show," "The Sean Hannity Show," "The Glenn Beck Program," The Savage Nation" and "The John and Ken Show" overwhelmingly marginalized minority groups.

Well, not a genius but she is pretty damn sharp and if you listen to her long enough you can see why the right would want to silence her.

Though the real problem is liberals dont listen to talk radio.

On that day,I took Rush's shameful words rather personally, as I heard him utter them on the car radio as I was driving home from Camp Casey in Crawford, where I had been among those supporting Cindy Sheehan's valiant protest. (So personally that after arriving home I retrieved his foul monologue from Google cache):

"How many of you could take a week or two off or whatever and hang around a ditch? I mean, where do these people work? First question I always ask: What do they do for a living? Where do they get their money? Donations, folks, donations. They're glad handlers, they're glorified beggars, they're down there raising money during all of this. At one point I saw today Sheehan's website is getting 25 grand a day. Now you got a bunch of caterers down there and Joan Baez is down there strumming out the tunes, but the Washington politicians are not joining them down there, and this is upsetting....

"The Texans are very patient people, but the real Texans are not the people in that ditch down there. REAL TEXANS are PUTTING ON THEIR CAMOUFLAGE GEAR and getting ready to go out there and GO HUNTING. you know, hunting season is coming up. At some point REAL TEXANS ARE GOING TO GET FED UP WITH WHAT'S GOING ON DOWN THERE and it's going to be REAL FUN TO WATCH, IF YOU GET MY DRIFT, ...a-hem..."

- - - Rush Limbaugh, August 22, 2005, discussing the Camp Casey antiwar demonstrators in the roads & ditches at Camp Casey outside Crawford, Texas, "real Texans", and "hunting season"

Yet, despite what Rush referred to as his "drift", and despite events such as the Knoxville Unitarian Church murders committed in 2008 by a man who explained that he wanted to kill "liberals", and who was inspired by a home library of books written by Rush's fellow RW hatemongers, when Rep. Gabby Giffords was shot in 2011, Rush was very specific in denying that RW hatemongers bore any responsibility:

"At no time has anybody ever called for violence...We've never subtly promoted it."

- - Rush Limbaugh, January 10, 2011

Hate radio has truly been one of the most malignant forces of our time.
