http://www.nationofchange.org/2015/04/07/los-angeles-seeks-to-ban-homeless-people-from-sleeping-in-cars-and-rvs/Now the city council is back with a more specifically written law that they hope will be able to permanently prevent homeless people from sleeping in vehicles. The city has also suggested selling permits to homeless people, who would be able to attain the privilege of camping in their cars if they pay the local government off.
Mike Feuer, one of the proponents of the new measure says that charging homeless people to sleep in their cars would strive to meet the City Councils goal to protect neighborhoods in a manner that is sensitive to the needs of the homeless.
According to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, roughly 5,000 residents are sleeping in cars at any given moment throughout the city.

(10,201 posts)Of course it is an excellent way to tap into that giant revenue bucket that is homelessness. 5,000 homeless... Wow! That's like tens of dollars.
Dear Los Angeles,
Go fuck yourself with a chainsaw.
Sincerely,
Like everyone else.

(53,661 posts)The issue, is not homelessnees, but houselessness. Where I grew up, the mayor set aside public land for the houseless to sleep in tents until public housing was built is the Depression.
That is not happening enough now. JMHO.

(21,046 posts)Several decades ago, people who were drunk in their cars were arrested for being drunk in public. Those cases were thrown out because a car is not a public place. I doubt this is gonna fly. However, with the current crackdown on homeless people, it may well stand.

(38,337 posts)But it seems our society cannot exist without scapegoats.
The unfortunate people living in the worst sorts of poverty, often because they are unemployable for mental health, addiction, or other medical issues, are the easiest scapegoats.
Rich or poor, many people seem to need "bad lazy and crazy" people around before they can accept as "good" their own miserable existence
