See Rodney King, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice etc....it doesn't matter.
Eric Garner was literally choked to death on camera and the killer cop walked. The person who shot the video actually ended up in jail and he was fed rat poison by the prison officials.
Video evidence is meaningless when the system is all fucked up.
This is why people in other countries laugh when they hear Americans say our country is about liberty and freedom.
Bush had the nerve to say the terrorists hate us for our freedom.
It's bullshit.
This is not a free society, especially if you're black.

(12,608 posts)I have told people not to rejoice or have hope there is video evidence of what happened. It should convict him but I feel it wont. He was charged with murder, not convicted of murder , people should remember that. And let's not forget the Grand Jury, they may not even let it go to trial.

(13,877 posts)before? I am stunned by the SILENCE of the Black Community (perhaps it is the MSM coverage), the Black Attorney General or the incoming AG, the Black President, the Black Caucus, etc. I'm sorry, but it seems that "political fortunes" are still affected by standing with Black Lives Matter.
I am praying someone can show me what I'm missing.

(7,290 posts)What should the AG, the incoming AG, the President, the Black Caucus or anyone else do? Charges are filed, and he'll be tried. If he's found not guilty, the federal government always has the option of seeking civil rights charges. But until that happens, they're right to stay out of it, IMO.

(13,877 posts)cop just gets off. This is unique in that there was a video that cannot in any way, shape or form be dismissed. Suddenly it has the immense power of the 24/7 MSM.
There are numerous racist murders that didn't get this publicity...that weren't fortunate enough to have a brave man take the video AND come forward. We all know that's the only thing that made this different. The statistics are there...they don't lie.
I've been reading about all the others, just recently, some who themselves went to jail and others, just Oh Well. Perhaps they did not have the social savvy to hire a high-priced attorney who would work pro bono? Remember, the first attorney who was going to represent the cop quit...after the video. That was likely the time that another high-priced attorney connected with the family.
It's time for whites and black to stand up with the Black Lives Matter. we still have vacuum of official lassiez faire.
That's what I'm talking about. We certainly don't need a video to convince a jury of a black man murdering a white man.
SickOfTheOnePct

What exactly do you believe the AG, President, etc., should be doing about this case?

(13,877 posts)South, which made slavery very hard to get rid of and needed an
federal Amendment, and we're still not there. Now, since they can't make them work for room and board, and people can now film and the public frowns on the pointy hats, they just shoot them.
What do I think? Any murder by any officer of a minority should be submitted to a Civilian Review Board, as well as the cronies locally. I'm not smart enough to figure out a program, but it's got to be at the federal level...where folks aren't beholden to their "betters" or superiors.
Body and dash cameras may work, but they "don't work" a lot, or footage just goes missing.
We have to integrate the police forces...just like we did schools. And just because there is a black or two on a force or a woman or two, they do not make it there without joining the "fraternity". Notice the 2nd cop was black...he didn't turn the murderer in. That's what the Fraternity does and does not do.
And the article about the firefighters sodomizing a recruit, they had the woman film it.
They are all about one thing ... power over another. Be it racial, gender, socioeconomic or sexual preference. Right now white cops killing black men is being shown to be endemic...justice only with a cell phone.

I grew up with that crud, including the most vile racists who had the gall to claim they weren't. And they still claim they aren't, although they talk about Blacks, Hispanics, Gays, etc., as if they were dirt.

(51,308 posts)Back in the 70's, I was in the first group of forced busing.
Charlotte and Boston were the "pilot projects".
Charlotte integrated with no problems. White Boston thugs attacked school buses full of black children. There were riots. That was the NORTH.
Get a grip. Move out of the south if you hate it so much.
The south has black mayors, governors and politicians in every part of government. I've noticed not so much in the north.
Must be awful for you to live somewhere you hate and where you know so many horrid people. Certainly sounds like you have lots of not so nice contacts. Gah. I would hate that.
I grew up in NC. I've lived here and loved blacks and whites all my life.
Again, I am so sorry for the fact that you live a life with such nasty people. But, I've learned in my many years of life - that generally you find what you look for.

I bet this cop gets away with it too. I hate it it is so evil but I won't believe a white cop with a pregnant wife is gonna do life in prison or get the death penalty for shooting a black man in the back in SC.

I have faith in South Carolina. I think the people there have a strong sense of right and wrong and they will do the right thing here.
This will make the 2nd police officer immediately fired and put on trial for shooting an unarmed person in South Carolina, you'll never see that in LA or NYC sad to say.

(11,175 posts)My evidence is that I fired up my lurker account at Free Republic to dip briefly into the extreme right's thoughts on the subject. Happily, even among those RWNJ's (some of whom think Fox News is too liberal), there seems to be a majority condemning the police officer.
A few samples:
"Officers life clearly not threatened. No doubt it was murder."
"Sharpton and friends are going to go nuts on this one.It appears that they would be justified, for once."
"We dont side with scum who shoot people in the back when their own life isnt being threatened. The cop is a real criminal in this situation. I say turn the cop loose in full uniform with badge and no gun in Ferguson." (Credit jsanders2001 for that creative suggestion, which I think many DUers could go along with.)
"Im surprised they did not shoot the guy with the camera."
Now, I'm not saying that all the Freepers see reason on this. Some are muttering that the video may have been edited in some unspecified manner. One comments, "The jury is still out on this incident ......" but that draws a reply: "Must be a pretty stupid jury...this was clearly murder. Some people simply shouldnt be cops."
These are people who, almost unanimously, were perfectly OK with the killings of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Even they punch out when they see that video. They're not prospective jurors, but based on their reactions, I'm going to predict that this cop will do significant time, either on a jury verdict or a plea bargain.
