I love that show. Great Documentary show and they hit some really great subject matter.
So they were exploring this crazy thing in Iran with gender reassignment surgery. See in Iran if you are a Gay you can be hanged because it's in their Quran. So pretty much it sucks to be gay in Iran with the fundamentals running the country.
But get this. Because their Quran says absolutely nothing about transexuals, they have no problem with people getting the surgery to have sexual reassignment. In fact in Iran, before they hang someone for being gay they might send them to a psychiatrist to see if they qualify for gender reassignment surgery.
I mean it's just all crazy if you ask me but the whole story they did on it was both fascinating and frightening since if I am correct being gay and being transsexual not the same thing. Of course when your country is run by fundie crazies this is what you get.

(50,001 posts)I was able to see the first half of that episode (about synthetic cannabinoids) but missed the second half. Seems like a great program. Maybe it'll be on again before we lose our free stuff.
Would love to see more VICE.

(3,496 posts)the last few frames of the patient crying on the operating room table and then having to lie as to why he was crying were heartbreaking. I did like to hear that there is an underground railroad to get gays out of Iran. Hopefully more can get out before they are killed.
But it was also interesting that Muslim's apparently don't have an issue with transexuals since they aren't mentioned in the Koran, but they have to put gays to death because they are mentioned in the Koran. And to hear that poor transexual's brother say he would have had to kill his sister for being gay was very disturbing...and she's (he's) right there listening to the brother.
