Interesting - everywhere else she's the top headline, above the fold. In Israel, she gets a 1 in.² photo, less coverage than a winter snow scene. Now, what does that mean?

(54,015 posts)...her announcement was even front page news in several places. Now what does that mean?
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)of the story on the page means. Editorial decisions like this aren't made by accident, or just because they happened to have a couple of inches left over in that spot.
Who made the page lay-out decision and why? Interesting 'cultural' difference, let's say.
Behind the Aegis
(54,015 posts)After all, it was an editorial decision on your part as the Israeli newspaper was not one the first four newspapers shown. Also, the fact you placed it last, then made a comment solely about that newspaper is an "editorial" on your part. The fact you are claiming it is a "cultural" difference is bizarre at best. Do you have any proof the layout of the paper, which by looking the article and picture would be above the fold, was due to cultural differences?
ETA: Ha'aretz is hardly a "right-wing" publication. Then of course, there are all those papers (there are hundreds throughout the world) where Clinton didn't even make the front page. What do you think that means?
Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)Wanted a cross-section of languages--thus, Danish, German, and of course French, which I speak. Israel came last because it was last in the original piece.
I seriously didn't even notice the 'downgrading' of Hillary until I 'previewed' the page.
And, I'd still be interested in your ideas as to why 'non-right-wing' Haaretz did this. Considering Israel and the US's 'special' relationship, I would've thought that such an important announcement would have pride of place.
Behind the Aegis
(54,015 posts)Israel wasn't last in the original piece. La Stamapa from Italy was #11. So, again, an editorial decision.
Why don't you contact Ha'aretz? They have English speaking staff. This is nothing more than a version of the "arrow is pointing right" nonsense. Looking for an issue, hell, creating an issue where there is none. If your feeling the "downgrade" is political, then perhaps so is your questioning of it.

Why don't I contact Haaretz? Would probably get some pre-fab answer from their 'social-media' team, even if I knew who to question.
I wasn't looking to 'create an issue'. Just asking an interesting 'cultrual' question which occurred to me after seeing Haaretz juxtaposed with other languages and papers.

(54,015 posts)So, rather than asking, it is better to make your own "pre-fab" answer?
What about this is "cultural?" You keep saying it in quotes but refuse to say what the cultural difference is that you suspect?
Is this also cultural?
Notice the picture is BELOW the fold and it is snarky and the story doesn't appear on the front page, it is on page eight. Also "cultural?"

(54,015 posts)Clinton didn't even get "top billing" in the excerpts provided by Buzz Feed. Some were only pictures that lead to other stories or other stories came before Clinton's announcement. So, that "cultural" difference you keep going on about; what is it?

"Interesting - everywhere else she's the top headline, above the fold. In Israel, she gets a 1 in.² photo, less coverage than a winter snow scene. Now, what does that mean?"
No, everywhere else she is NOT the top headline. Even in your excerpts, only the Israeli paper has an actual story about the announcement on page one, above the fold. As for the winter snow scene, well, in the Middle East it is big news given this type of storm has only happened 3-4 times in the past 50 years; qualifies it as big news and unusual news.
You claimed you chose the Israeli one because it was the last...it wasn't. You claim you could only use 4 photos, as per DU, true, but you "picked and chose" yourself, then only questioned one entry of 11. You claimed the picture was unusual and when advised to contact the English speaking editors, you already decided they would be of no help, so it was better to keep guessing as to their motivations.
You put the axe out there...why?
