Jonas Salk created the Polio vaccine yesterday 60 years ago

Turning back time to about 60 years ago, the polio vaccine was regarded as miracle. Post this successful clinical trial of the vaccine of the killer disease polio, the entire nation and also the whole world heaved a huge sigh of relief. Back then the same was recorded as the largest conducted clinical trial in the history of medicine.

Creator of this vaccine Jonas Salk was more than worshiped by many for more than just successfully creating this life saving vaccine. The vaccine was declared safe and effective then. However, people in the medical fraternity admit that had Jonas Salk been alive this very day, probably his greatest fear would be, if the polio immunity drops are administered below the prescribed level, polio disease could probably make a comeback.

For those of us old enough to remember when polio was still a threat, are any of you even remotely in the anti-vac camp?

allowed to go swimming, much less go anywhere where crowds were (like Fairs). One of my best friend's older brother got polio and has a withered leg today - and he was one of the 'lucky ones'. Collecting dimes for the March of Dimes and looking at pictures of kids like us looking at their faces in the mirror on the Iron Lungs. Salk is one of the greatest men of this Century.

My mother, who was a nurse, was very scared of polio because she'd had to care for kids who had it and knew how bad it could get. She hauled our little butts to get the vaccine the instant it became generally available. I don't understand people who oppose vaccinating their kids. If polio ever came back how would they feel about iron lungs?
