Just watched Rachel's show from last night. How is it possible that everyone can evacuate their citizens from this war zone (a real Saudi Arabia vs Iran conflict).. but we, who have LOTS of resources in the area, can't rescue Americans?

(5,455 posts)The USS Iwo Jima Amphibious Group is in the area:

And what an ARG can do: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphibious_ready_group
I also know that the Theodore Roosevelt carrier task group is in the area as well.
In other words, a Marine infantry battalion, with air support from attack helicopters and carrier aircraft and helicopter and tilt rotor aviation support sufficient to evacuate a substantial number of people is in the area and not being used.
It certainly seems we have the necessary military assets in the area to conduct a rescue, although I will grant getting all the US citizens in Yemen to one place where they can be evacuated without them being killed or captured is likely a problem.
