I suggested Barbara Lee as a VP for Hillary yesterday, thinking I could come to terms with Hillary if she had a "progressive side" to her ticket. But instead I see her giving out coded messages about her value of "hard work" (which I see as a wink-wink promise to continue/exacerbate "welfare reform as we know it" instead of repair the broken social services infrastructure.). So I think there is no hope there: Hillary's triangulation is going to marginalize the extremely poor, not matter how progressive she is on other "social" issues like "women in the workplace" or "childcare".
I've never considered Barbara Lee as a candidate for President because I'm not sure about her International experience. But I trust her domestic experience. In Oakland she runs on the slogan "Barbara Lee Stands for Me", and she always does.
Bernie is also THE MAN as far as I'm concerned. I want his voice in the Oval Office. But I also want to vote for the first woman President. I still feel a smidgen of guilt for not voting for Hillary in 2008. She would have had my vote if she had run on universal healthcare. Obama promised "Hope and Change" and he had a domestic agenda: so as much as I wanted to see a female President in my lifetime, I wanted healthcare more. Obama got my vote.
Would a Barbara Lee/Bernie ticket work? Would Bernie partner with Barbara and offer her the top slot?
Dems to Win
(2,161 posts)I can't imagine Bernie not being happy to be her VP.
I'd work full time for this ticket. And we would WIN.
Nice dream.

(11,833 posts)Barbara Jean Lee (born July 16, 1946) is the U.S. Representative for California's 13th congressional district, serving East Bay voters from 1998 to 2013 during a time when the region was designated California's 9th congressional district. She is a member of the Democratic Party. She was the first woman to represent the 9th district and is also the first woman to represent the 13th district. Lee was the Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and was the Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Lee is notable as the only member of either house of Congress to vote against the authorization of use of force following the September 11, 2001 attacks.[1] This made her a hero among many in the anti-war movement.[2] Lee has been a vocal critic of the war in Iraq and supports legislation creating a Department of Peace.

(62,325 posts)enough on FP to know what was the right thing to do when Bush/Cheney were lying the country into war.
Others, not so much. They made the wrong decision, as the trail of disaster from that horrific decision continues to this day.
So, I am not worried about her knowledge of FP, she can be easily briefed on what she needs to know. She showed her intelligence intelligence when she voted 'no' on the AUMF AND on the Patriot Act, not to mention immense courage.
She is a fighter, I would love to work for her.
She has not said she is interested, but if her country wanted and needed her, I think she would step up.
And Bernie, so right on important issues, and so clear in expressing he reasons why
.
And he too knows how to fight for those who elected him.
