For Walker, the results of the poll released on Thursday of registered voters show 41% approved of the way he is handling the job as governor, while 56% disapprove.

That compares with a 49% job approval rating — and 47% disapproving — when Marquette released the results of its last poll on Oct. 26, when the Republican governor was facing Democrat Mary Burke in his re-election race.

Voters also strongly oppose — at 78% — Walker's plan to cut aid to schools by $127 million. Nearly as many — 70% — oppose Walker's plan to cut $300 million to the University of Wisconsin System.

In a head-to-head matchup, Walker trailed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton 52% to 40%.

Among GOP voters, Walker led other Republican candidates. He had 40%, compared with 10% for U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, 8% for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, 6% for U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and 6% for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
