If Hillary is the inevitable candidate, I'd like to support her with enthusiasm.
She is now talking more like Elizabeth Warren. I appreciate that.
She voted for the Iraq War.
Either she didn't know any better or she was being expedient.
How would she vote regarding Iran and the sanctions the 47 and some others would like to apply?
What would she say now? I really want to know.

(19,877 posts)Rumsfeld said the operation would take 3 months, the rest of BushCo said we would be greeted as liberators. But good questions I hope she answers as well.

(114,904 posts)people like, oh you know, Teddy Kennedy and Pat Leahy. She heard this:
"Mr. President, declaring war, or providing the authority to wage war, is the single most important responsibility given to Congress under the Constitution. As history has shown, wars inevitably have unforeseen, terrible consequences, especially for innocent civilians.
Blank-check resolutions, such as the one the President proposes, can likewise be misinterpreted or used in ways that we do not intend or expect. It has happened before, in ways that many people, including Members of Congress, came to regret. That is why a thorough debate is so necessary. And that is also why this Vermonter will not vote for a blank check for this President or any President. My conscience and the Constitution do not allow that.""Mr. President, declaring war, or providing the authority to wage war, is the single most important responsibility given to Congress under the Constitution. and so much more.
There's really no excuse for anyone who voted for the IWR. It demonstrated bad judgment no matter how you look at it.

(30,481 posts)She is pretty well on the record about Iraq. I also don't think at this point it would be very responsible of her to discuss Iran in a comprehensive manner, unless it flows from the current administration. We are all hoping Iran will be changes in our policy toward Iran in the near future. Well before the next candidate takes the office. Tough position on that one. Would like to hear more from her on Iran either close to the end of the campaign or after a deal is made.

(616 posts)The question about an event inevitably leads to a question about the future. Yes, I want to know where she stands on Iran. I'm not happy about her Iraq vote, and I want to be reassured that she has learned her lesson.

It's a long OP I wrote with links to other sources. You may not be able to focus on this thread if you read it now. But you can come back to it another time.
Belated welcome to DU.
