Well, one of our "friends" who has become a tea-party member was talking to my wife and my wife has this way of talking sometimes. She uses "old" words. Well the word she used today was Constitutional. She was referring to this cat in the neighborhood we use to live in and how it has his daily constitutional at this certain time and she knows the time because this cat seems to pass every day at a certain time before returning to the owners home.
The Tea partier started in. "You are such a dumb idiot. you claim republicans don't use words right and you don't even use words right."
my wife showed the tea party "friend" that in fact the word Constitutional can mean a walk.
to which the tea party "friend" said. "You smug liberal... have to prove you went to college."
We reminded her she went to the same college we did.
To which she rolled her eyes said it was a waste of money and walked away.

(6,476 posts)That's pretty funny..I've grown up with people who looked down on education. The TParty is rife with people who think you're "showing off" if you speak well and use "big" words. It's sad yes?!

The Native American Party, renamed in 1855 as American Party, and commonly named Know Nothing movement, was an American political party that operated on a national basis during the mid-1850s.
It promised to purify American politics by limiting or ending the influence of Irish Catholics and other immigrants, thus reflecting nativism and anti-Catholic sentiment. It was empowered by popular fears that the country was being overwhelmed by German and Irish Catholic immigrants, whom they saw as hostile to republican values and controlled by the Pope in Rome.
Mainly active from 1854 to 1856, it strove to curb immigration and naturalization, but met with little success. Membership was limited to Protestant men. There were few prominent leaders, and the largely middle-class membership fragmented over the issue of slavery.
the daily constitutional.
The walk? Or the morning restroom visit?
too funny
I thought it was the morning restroom visit too.

(5,167 posts)"republicans" and "liberal"?
If she says this to your face, you can only imagine what she says about you to others.
Since most of my own friends (and some family) are Republican and I'm the non-confrontational type, I tend to keep conversations to fairly neutral ground, though I will speak up when an obvious factual error is presented.
Sometimes, it's just better to smile at certain individuals and move on.

All I have to do is say ONE word that triggers a political thought, and my neighbor will rant and rave about "the government, it's the government's fault", etc. I just ignore her and walk away... and "he's a Musllim", etc.

(31,410 posts)what is it with Republicans always wanting to prove how stupid they are? Really, please tell
me why you think being stupid is a good thing? What is the value in being ignorant and proud of it?

Typical, though, she tried to cover up her own stupid goof by going on the attack. "potatoe"
She said going to college was a waste of money? Yeah, I guess, if she still doesn't like "big words"

(41,184 posts)about young people going to college or smthg. Yet Santorum has an undergrad. and law degree, and his wife has two degrees also. Must be the old 'pointy- headed intellectual liberal' meme and a new one to deter kids from college, esp. since jobs are declining.

(13,218 posts)Whatever they say, simply reverse the references between them and us and you will have the truth! Although I admit that claiming you need a college education to understand "constitutional" is a bit bizarre.
