Just think how much they'd pay if allowed to become citizens
A new nationwide study on the fiscal implications of illegal immigration concludes that millions of undocumented immigrants are paying billions of dollar in taxes into state and local coffers, and that substantially more would be generated if President Obama prevails in imposing a new executive order protecting many of those workers from deportation.
The 50-state analysis by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy released on Thursday found that roughly 8.1 million of 11.4 million undocumented immigrants who work paid more than $11.8 billion in state and local taxes in 2012, even while they were living illegally in the country.
The groups analysis estimated that illegal immigrants combined nationwide state and local tax contributions would increase by $845 million under full implementation of Obamas 2012 and 2014 executive actions and by $2.2 billion under comprehensive immigration reform.
Tax contributions from illegal immigrants ranged from less than $3.2 million in Montana with an estimated undocumented population of 6,000 to more than $3.2 billion in California with more than 3.1 million illegal immigrants, according to the study.

(35 posts)As an identity theft victim, in which my social was stolen and used by an illegal immigrant to work -- sticking me with unpaid taxes -- I find the issue near and dear.
I wish we would just give amnesty to all so they wouldn't have to commit felonies and victimize innocent Americans just to make a buck.

Immigration reform would likely lessen identity theft.

(12,160 posts)One doesn't need a SS number to pay local and state taxes. All one needs is to buy goods and to have housing. Even if one rents property taxes are paid by the landlord with money received for rent.

(6,261 posts)These numbers for California and nationwide work out to around $1,000 annually per capita.
For comparison, a single child in public school costs somewhere $5,000 and $12,000 annually, and that's just one child in school. It doesn't even begin to address the other costs associated with civil society: medical, police, roads, etc.
These numbers show this population to be a net drain on the economy.
