Man beaten by San Bernardino County Sheriff deputies gets huge settlement in a hurry

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/04/21/1379271/-Man-beaten-by-San-Bernardino-County-Sheriff-deputies-gets-huge-settlement-in-a-hurry

San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies were caught by a camera on a news helicopter severely beating Francis Jared Pusok after he ran from police on a stolen horse.

The video of the beating went viral and San Bernardino County must be in a hurry to close the case, because they announced that only three weeks later, they've come to a financial settlement in the case:

The man beaten by sheriff's deputies during his arrest on live chopper video, capping a pursuit on horseback through the high desert northeast of Los Angeles, has settled with San Bernardino County for $650,000.

County officials said in a statement they came to that agreement with Francis Jared Pusok over his April 9 arrest "in order to avoid litigation expenses."

One of the terms of the settlement is the county does not have to admit wrongdoing. In an interview with NBC4 (which can be seen here), Pusok said one of the deputies offered in a chilling warning:

Afterward, he said one of the deputies who beat him walked up and whispered in his ear, "This isn't over."

I can't figure out why he settled unless he wants to go into hiding from the cops. Vinca Apr 2015 #3
Seems plausible. As Dicletian said, he could probably have gotten much more n/t eridani Apr 2015 #4

Just 660.000 for being beat up like that - to small amount of money if you ask me - it should have had a few digits more...And the Sheriff department should have admitted wrongdoing too...

And the deputy who walked up to him, and whispered in his ear - that this was not over - should be at least reprimanded as this was a treat, no doubt about it, it was a treat to his person.... After being beaten that way he was - this statement on its own, should have been enough to give the police officer a rather uncomfortable visit to the sheriff - but I guess, this is something the sheriff accept - both the beating - and the deputy who steeped over and threatened him again...

And I wouldn't blame him for that. If he had pursued a court case in front of a jury he'd probably end up owning most of the county.
