Rep. Barbara Lee on Fast Track: "I'm working hard to make it go down...It's pretty horrendous."

For the Bay Area's congressional delegation, positions on the issues often come easy: Side with the president, and you'll usually please the area's relatively progressive business community as well, on issues ranging from immigration to the environment to gay rights.

But a new trade bill being fiercely debated this week has put these liberal Democrats in an uncomfortable position, at odds with powerful constituencies they rarely offend.

The bill would give the White House "fast track" authority to strike international trade deals and limit the power of Congress to amend them.

Rep. Barbara Lee is one of President Barack Obama's most ardent supporters, but on this issue she is helping to whip votes against the bill.

"I'm working hard to make it go down," said Lee, D-Oakland, who said giving the president the right to sign trade agreements that lawmakers can only vote up or down leaves Congress muzzled, the environment at dire risk, and too many U.S. workers jobless. "It's pretty horrendous." ....................(more)

I wish she would run, but in the current state our country is, she would never have the amount of money needed.

I asked her personally (back in 2003) to run for President for the 2004 elections. She smiled and thanked me for my support and then got up to the dais and delivered one hell of a fiery speech against the invasion of Iraq. She pulled no punches, she was on fire. It was brilliant, So happy she's my rep in Congress.

He may have friends in Indonesia whom he's had since childhood. These friends might be hoping he may fulfill promises he may of made to help the land they hold dear.

You do know his mother and second husband moved to Indonesia where Barrack spent many of his school years before moving back to Hawaii?

believes the TPP is good for America, the problem as most of us are aware is there appears to be a lot of missing gaps, questions, and and lack of protections. Besides Warren and Sanders issues with the TPP, Hillary also has issues with the TPP, and so do others, so unless proven otherwise, the TPP is probably as bad as they say
