Did you know taking a stray to a shelter was a capital offense?

Apparently it is in Dolan, AL.

Cops Kill Man for Refusing to ID as He Dropped Off Stray Cat to Animal Shelter, Police Remain Silent

Dothan, Ala. – In late December of 2014, Robert Earl Lawrence, 30, in an act of compassion, took a stray cat to the Dothan Animal Shelter. What was a seemingly selfless act of kindness would subsequently end with Lawrence being fatally gunned down by a cop.

Almost four months after that fateful day, police have provided the public with no more answers than were given the day after the killing. They have maintained a blanket of virtual silence surrounding the incident.

... For dropping off a puppy.

It's an obvious appeal to emotion that fails with an ounce of thought or reflection.

Good to see that "the adults in the room" get all of their facts straight before opening their yaps.

That website was riddled with pop ups and ads it overwhelmed my Kindle which exists to serve ads. Will look for story and put up the Kindle.

Just from the little bit I'm reading so far, the fact that he was dropping off the cat was simply coincidence. He could have run into this same cop anywhere, doing anything, and gotten into the same argument escalating into violence. The real story seems to be yet another case of police interacting with the public in a way that leads to police violence.

The man was indeed, dropping off a stray to a shelter and was killed while doing so.

Sorry my hyperbole doesn't meet your high standards.

If so, you might as well have said 'Did you know wearing pants was a capital offense?' and it would have as much relevance as the cat dropping off part.

You do not have to comply with every demand made by the police. This really pisses off the cops who believe that disobeying an order from them opens the door to violent intervention by them.

Over and over again cops demonstrate that they don't get it: obey me unquestioningly or you will die.

it was the demand of the shelter - which held him there against his will - would not allow him to leave.

Now isn't THAT kidnapping or false imprisonment? How does that shelter have that authority?

It's probably a city or county government shelter.

Still imagine going to the city library and not being allowed to leave before showing ID?

Wouldn't most people be thinking - WTF?
