And Franklin Graham is furious, of course.

Hey Franklin Graham?
This is a COMIC BOOK SUPERHERO, a mutant who can make ice.
Do kids get super powers from reading comic books?
BTW, Iceman was the first one to say when seeing Jean Grey, "A girl, big deal!"

(51,122 posts)I would have to dig out my old X-Men comics to judge if he was 'teh gay' or not, pre-the coming out comic.

(16,191 posts)The comic book even references it. In a nutshell, older Bobby is straight (or, at most, bi). Beast travels back in time and retrieves the younger alternates of several X-Men, including Bobby. Younger Bobby, as it turns out, is gay. The questions of how and why their orientations are different haven't been completely answered yet, and will presumably be addressed at some point in the future.
The movies tend to be inspired by individual story line arcs from the comic book series. "Days of Future Past", for example, was based on an Uncanny X-Men story from the early 80's. First Class was actually based on a comic series called XMen: First Class. X2 was based on the Dark Phoenix series. Wolverine was based on Frank Millers original Volume 1 series of the same name.
The movies probably won't even acknowledge the change in his orientation unless they do a movie based on the All New X-Men series. Considering the backstory of the series, I don't see that happening anytime soon. In the All new X-Men, Cyclops turned evil and started killing humans, and the rest of the X-Men were OK with it, so Beast time traveled their younger counterparts into the future to fight themselves. That's a tough story for a movie studio to adapt, because it requires that the X-Men stand by and accept an attempted genocide. Even though Cyclops is defeated, the storyline could undermine support for the X-Men as you'd basically be watching them shrug their shoulders at a slaughter.
If it ever makes it to the screen, I suspect that it will be when Jackman et al are ready to retire from the franchise and the studio needs a new set of actors. The story seems to work well for that. X-Men turn evil, newer "younger" X-Men come from the past to save the day, and the new actors take over the franchise from there. If it happens, that's when we'll get a gay Iceman in the films.

(11,804 posts)It's getting good reviews in general, although there's a bit of an issue. Right now there is a teenage Iceman from the original run of X-Men brought forward in time, and an adult Iceman. The teenage Iceman has come out, because Jean Gray, Telepath, told him he was gay. The adult Iceman is still heterosexual, or possibly bi-sexual.
Interesting response to the issue here, by Brett White. Also contains images from the book itself.
Oh and if reading comic books give you super powers, I must be doing it wrong.

(50,567 posts)And since he IS a witch, doesn't the Bible already say he should be killed, along with the rest of the X-Men?

(8,217 posts)The guy playing the part Iceman in the X-Men movies, him or his twin played a gay character in a show called Warehouse 13.
I thought that was pretty cool.

(11,619 posts)I see no problem with updating the characters so that they better reflect the world of non-superheros.
Now, when will women in the comics look like real women?
