Dena Ander, OK Shoe Store Owner, kicks up heels for her 100th birthday.

MIAMI, OK — Well-heeled women have traveled across the state and from neighboring states to visit Ander’s Shoe Store for almost a century. The store’s owner, Dena Ander, who turned 100 on Thursday, has worked at that store for 85 years.

“I started working in 1930 when I was a 15-year-old as a saleswoman,” Ander said.

For a long time the young saleswoman didn’t receive a salary.

“It was hard during the Depression, we were happy when we had food,” Ander said. “I remember the Depression, rationing, and the war.”
