...for myself.
and you, if you have a uterus, get to decide that as well. There really shouldn't be any debate about it, and I'm sick that we're having this fight again... on a message board. And there shouldn't be any shame or sadness or any of the crap that women have been told they "should" be feeling ever since Roe v. Wade. We all get to live our lives without input unless we ask for it. We don't have to pay some emotional penance should we decide to have an abortion to make you feel better about it all. In fact, I long for a day when women don't feel compelled to have to tell their stories about their decisions and how they felt about them because their rights will be iron-clad protected against perverted politicians and the "save the fetus, screw the child" set. Most of us aren't on here discussing our routine medical procedures...
I used to support "legal, safe, and rare," but that's a line of bunk. It is still threading the shame right through there in an attempt to appease people the law doesn't even protect. "Legal and safe." And before the education-prevents-unwanted-pregnancy people show up, THIS is not about THAT. Thank you.
What am I really against??? Women bleeding out on their bathroom floors and babies being found dead in dumpsters.
Side note: If you don't have a uterus... sorry Bub. Not your decision/problem/life/place to tell anyone what they should do/how they should feel. You manage your life. I'll manage mine.
Thank you.

(92,482 posts)country is the problem. In the last election, a higher percent of white women voted for republicans, at least according to exit polls.

All the battles that were fought for women's rights in the 50's and 60's are at risk of being turned back. If the ERA was presented today it wouldn't make it, which only puts emphasis on the fact that discrimination against women is still a very real problem in the U.S.

(5,105 posts)Abortions are unfortunate, but they are a fact of life. They even happened in bible times. Should they be legal? Hell yes. With all the arguments over whether a fetus can feel pain, then fine, I would limit it to the time just before a fetus has a functional brain, were I the king.

(68,918 posts)Now, I realize that there should be no shame, guilt or penance paid. It would be unfortunate for me, but I can't say that for everyone.

(110,159 posts)with a third child she really really did not want. but... she was anti abortion with herself.... as we have held. we then watched over a period of a month, him becoming violent, working on isolating her and controlling her. no signs prior.
x military and perfectly comfortable with his loaded weapons he carried with him. and willing to choke a friend to unconscious.
she had two other little kids from previous marriage.
at this point, she had to actually sit down and consider tying herself to this unstable man for two decades. not only putting herself at risk, but her two children and a future child.
it was an eye opener for all of us, never having been around a person that was to this extreme.
ya.
i would have done as she did. had never considered it in the past, just sure i would have the safety nets and security, strength to follow thru. but, it was a whole different world to step into.

(55,981 posts)I am against the death penalty, I am against wars, I think it's societies obligation to help children not die (our country has a very bad record for this), and I am for reducing abortions. I am for reducing abortions thru education. However, if abortions are needed then I favor having society help those in need of abortions.

Yep. You said it, Meemie. THAT is what we're going to get more of, as the radical wrong keep whittling away OUR sovereignty over OUR OWN BODIES. Unless we stop it. Seriously.

And since I don't have a uterus, I've been able to stick to my very deeply held personal conviction that I should never have an abortion.
Other people get to make their own decisions. Though other men who are willing to have abortions sicken me. Those perverts getting abortions even though they don't have a uterus. It's shameful.
Women? They get to make their own decisions, and can involve as many or as few people as she wants in that decision. After all, if we can't trust women with abortion, how the hell can we trust them with a child?
