Jeez, that WH correspondent's dinner crowd looked creaky and cranky...

I say that as an old fart myself...they were a bunch of sour looking individuals. I missed the red carpet but I can imagine it must have been a wowser, too...

They seemed humorless or maybe the speakers overall weren't funny. Cecily Strong got off some good lines, altho she seemed very nervous and her delivery was sometimes a little off. But who wouldn't be looking out at a bunch of old fogies who all seemed to project an aura of "been there, seen that" and bored out of their minds.

Julian Castro was the bright note, tho! He looked like he was enjoying himself. Michelle had great style and looked classy as usual. I was scratching my head that Wolf Blitzer had Jane Fonda in tow. I thought it was an odd pairing...

Maybe it's just me but it was depressing...Obama tried to gin things up but the crowd wouldn't give him much traction and had practically no enthusiasm (except for the McCain pic -- that was pretty good!). I wonder why they showed up in the first place...maybe given their demographic it was past their bedtime...

2. well, he could crush it, as you say. I kept thinking "what's the matter with these people?"

Maybe they just wanted to look "world weary" or something.

It was a bit odd that Martin O'Malley came in for some snipes...

3. I agree, but I would also add Michele and Obama.

I saw the presentations for scholarships and Obama's ditty, but thought Michele appeared bored and Obama was just trying to get thru the whole thing.

The crowd was very cold and critical by their expressions.

Was this due to the TPP battle or is there something coming up that hasn't been disclosed yet?

Her hair was so beautiful and just looked sensational...but it must be hard to have to be her at one of these events...it must be wearying...hope she got some rest last night after the whole damn thing was over...

Not that I expect journalists or commentators to look sleek and well turned out. I don't. But some looked awkward in their dressy clothes...

5. I think they looked cranky/frowny as they were terrified of being seen laughing.

The camera was panning the crowd a lot and they didn't want to seem to be enjoying themselves as their dingbat wingbat evangelicalbat over seers would go after them like flies on feces.

6. I wonder if the criticism/scrutiny of the WHCA this year had anything to do with it

Having it revealed that they pay their executive director more than they give out in scholarship funds has pretty much exposed that the WHCA really has no higher purpose than throwing a lavish party every year - this fact dominated a lot of the pre-coverage of the event this year.

And I thought it was pretty obvious who the repubs were in the audience. After a couple of total LOL zingers by President Obama, the cameras cutaway to a middle age or older white male or two who looked like they were having a root canal. Total frown...robotic stare.

It really reminded me of the repubs during the State of the Union- like they're trained to look creaky and cranky in unison, to anything President Obama says that doesn't have to do with the military industrial complex and Ya know, freedum.

11. I found them a little off-putting as well, but I thought maybe it was just the camera choices.

Lots of takes of people just sitting there stone faced when I was finding things funny.

Also, there seemed to be a lot of youngish, stylish animated women and a lot of oldish, stodgy, bored looking men.

Perhaps it is a reflection of the industry? I thought Obama did a great job and Michelle looked wonderful, but I would have liked to have heard from her.

12. It's my guess that the men you were seeing (me too) had "eye candy" with them

to show their peers they still "have it" or more bluntly can still "do it." I felt a little sorry for the women correspondents who were a bit heavy, looked awkward in evening clothes (one even tugging at her strapless top to adjust it caught on camera as they were leaving) and wore some poorly designed dresses. They are professionals and going around all dressed to the nines with their hair always done and makeup perfect is not their thing...

Humorless, lemon-faced people who get pissy when the jokes are about them.

I've never seen the CNN table so mad. It was a treat!

Some of them make a career of chewing on the prez, and they can't take it for a few Minutes one evening a year?

I thought he was a stitch, myself.
