(20,878 posts)Especially considering the amount of earthquake activity that goes on from one day to the next.
I've lived through the Loma Prieta and there were two magnitude 7+ quakes in one night where I now live in the early 1990s and yes, you tend to cower in fear after experiencing such events.
We are NOT exempt!

(9,901 posts)At distance you only feel the S waves. The P waves are short frequency up/down shaking, the more damaging movement are the side to side S waves.
The camera's quick movement during the inital shaking was almost certainly P waves, and when the lower frequency but more powerful S waves became dominant the camera settled down and the water really started moving.
