BERKELEY -- Berkeley High School officials on Wednesday closed the campus to visitors and called for more police to help stop a simmering feud between its students and students from McClymonds High School in West Oakland.
The added police presence came amid reports that Oakland students planned to come to the Berkeley campus as part of ongoing strife between students from the two schools.
On Tuesday, a handful of Berkeley students went to McClymonds in West Oakland "to continue a personal conflict" related to a large fight in Berkeley three weeks ago, Berkeley High Principal Kristin Glenchur wrote in a letter to parents.
As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, there were no reports of fights, according to police. During the school's lunch hour, Berkeley police patrolling Shattuck Avenue and Allston Way, about two blocks from the high school, stopped two juveniles and 21-year-old Christopher Pugh, all from Oakland.

(59,447 posts)I work at the University and, every so often around 4 to 5 pm, I will see a usually small group of kids around the BART station shouting at each other. Once there was some shoving. Thanks for there warning.

Between about 3:40 p.m. and 4:20 p.m., Berkeley police and Berkeley High School safety officers responded to some 15 to 20 fights that broke out in the area of Kittredge Street, Shattuck Avenue and Channing Way, Berkeley High School Principal Kristin Glenchur said.
Glenchur said the fights took place off campus and involved Berkeley High students, students from the Berkeley Technology Academy, students from San Leandro and Oakland and some adults.
More than 20 Berkeley police officers responded to the fights, along with the entire Berkeley High safety staff and administration, Glenchur said.
