People never seem to consider that looting happens because you know the store will be closed

since it's been partially set on fire and had its front door smashed in. And, you know, you need toilet paper. Lots of things can go wrong, but you need toilet paper. And this is the only store in your neighborhood, and you don't have a car, and you'll probably be on lockdown from the police anyways. So, you grab the toilet paper, because again you need toilet paper and there's not a way you can buy it now that the store is wrecked.

because you need to be right with yourself, and you need the store to make a profit to ensure it will remain open (barring any future unrest?).

Which means that within a few weeks your toilet paper problem will be considerably worse, and stay that way.

Way, way back when, grocery stores in my town were closed on Sundays. My mother always made sure we had toilet paper, milk, bread, and other necessities by the time stores closed on Saturdays.

If an unforeseen circumstance arose--like everyone in the family having diarrhea--she never broke into a store to steal when it was closed.

because they need toilet paper, eh? Gee, seems like a great advertising slogan for Charmin.

Somehow I'm not buying it.
