The jobs most likely to make you drink

The jobs most likely to make you drink

Drug abuse -- including and especially alcohol abuse -- costs the U.S. economy billions of dollars in lost productivity each year. New government data released this month can now tell us exactly which industries' employees drink the most, which do the most drugs, and where employees are most likely not just to use drugs, but abuse them. Here's how the numbers break down:

which around here means casinos, restaurants, bars, and hotels. We got drunk just about every night, and then we'd take drugs to get us through the day at work. That life will catch up with you. That's why you see so many young people working at those jobs. They're the only ones who can stay relatively healthy and still live like that.

As a Mapping Designer, that's where I'd put myself, as my work is almost always done through engineering companies (sometimes through governments, such as GIS techs for cities and states.)

For instance...

http://www.therecoveryvillage.com/drug-addiction/professions-highest-rate-abuse/

Though there are a number of professions that come with high rates of drug abuse and addiction, some of the highest risk jobs or industries include:

Health care professionals. With easy access to prescription painkillers, benzodiazepines, and a number of drugs used for anesthesia, it can be difficult to withstand the temptation to use these drugs if addiction is an issue. Nurses, doctors, anesthesiologists, and pharmacists all have a high risk of drug abuse. It is estimated that between 10 and 15 percent of all medical professionals will abuse or misuse drugs at one point or another during their career.

And...

Law enforcement. Police officers, correctional officers, and other law enforcement personnel are also in high-risk professions in terms of drug and alcohol abuse. The difficulties associated with the work can often mean issues with depression as well.

Interesting that law enforcement didn't even make the list in the OP at all.

when I was half way through my PhD I turned to alcohol daily to get me through the last few years. 2 years after I finished I am finally starting to be able to slowly cut back, but still drink far too much.

I always throught alcoholism was a choice and any one could quit if they really wanted to... but once it gets a hold of you, its hard to get free of it.
