Liberty! Freedom! The USA PATRIOT Act is dead!

The most egregious parts of it are dead, anyway. Now, bury it with a stake through its heart.

Six and a half years ago, I voted for Barack Obama looking forward to being able to thank him for this very event. So, although I was hoping it would have come sooner, thank you, Mr. President. Just as you earned the Nobel Peace Prize, so you have earned our thanks.

Let's be honest, we wouldn't be talking about mass data collection if not for him

Rather than being publicly known and debated maybe now it will be done by some loose "interpretation" of laws regarding national security.

If we've learned anything about our recent past, it's that this isn't dead, they'll just keep it alive in secret until another Snowden comes along. It's all a circle that the government plays with its citizens.

And a brick in its mouth. With a garlic rosary. After setting it on fire. And sacrificing several good pipes and a bottle of $500 rum to Eshu-elegba to make sure it doesn't come back.

Maybe a priest should come and exorcise it, just to be on the safe side.

Our phrase comes from the old English word "scot", meaning a form of tax. If you got away without paying the scot, you were evading a burden you should have borne.

So the phrase "scot-free" has nothing to do with people named Scott or with people from Scotland.

He said it gave too much power to any one POTUS. We can take care of national security without going to war or allowing this kind of power in a unitary fashion.

That was bulk NSA collection and retention of metadata. It's the warrantless mass profiling and targeting that's carried out by other agencies. What's your terrorist quotient?
