Not The Onion: Republicans seek to win over black voters

Republicans believe they have an opportunity to nudge their support up among black voters in the 2016 presidential election with President Obama not on the ballot — and take a major stride toward winning the White House in the process.

But they also acknowledge that it won’t be an easy task.

Republicans believe the 2016 Democratic nominee will not be able to produce the spike in black turnout nor the increase in already-overwhelming black support that Obama enjoyed in his two victories.

Even a modest rise in black backing for the GOP could be critical in swing states, independent experts acknowledge.

It will be pretty hard to win over a group of people for whom you express contempt at every opportunity and who are directly harmed by policies you favor.

And don't think having Ben Carson as a potential nominee is going to help a bit. Everybody knows he won't get the nomination and your knuckledragger base wouldn't actually vote for him anyhow.

And all black young men are thugs. Each time a cop kills a black man fox defends the cops and blames people like Eric Garner and Trevon Martin as they had it coming to them. Black outreach is laughable at best. Will they go intoblack communities to appeal to voters? I doubt it!

If attempting to get the black vote some of the hatefulness leaves it would be a good result. As a Democrat I hope they meet with failure.

Please! Winning the black vote would be a snap if black people were as stupid as Republicans think they are (based on Republican pronouncements about black people).

And it's not only Black voters, but women, Asians, Hispanics, gays, Jews, etc. Pretty much any marginalized or historically-disadvantaged group gets portrayed by the media as monoliths.

Democracy every time. Wait.. that won't work, either.

And, that's why.. articles like this are being written for the Democrats..

"White progressives’ racial myopia: Why their colorblindness fails minorities — and the left"

snip//

"..But the golden age wasn’t golden for people who weren’t white.."

"Yes, African American incomes rose and unemployment declined in those years. But black people were locked out of many of the wealth-generating opportunities of the era: blocked from suburbs with restricted covenants and redlined into neighborhoods where banks wouldn’t lend; left out by the GI Bill, which didn’t prevent racial discrimination; neglected by labor unions, which discriminated against or outright blocked black members. (That’s why I gave my book, “What’s the Matter with White People?”, the subtitle “Why We Long for a Golden Age that Never Was.”)"

snip//

"And American politics today requires that they be corrected: no Democrat can win the presidency without consolidating the Obama coalition, particularly the African American vote."

who say they will vote for Carson in the primary because if he's the candidate, African American voters will automatically vote for him. They think that AA voters voted for Pres. Obama only because he's AA himself.
