Bernie Sanders Terrifies Republicans By Urging A Million Young People To March On Washington

Bernie Sanders Terrifies Republicans By Urging A Million Young People To March On Washington
By: Jason Easley
Monday, June, 1st, 2015, 7:15 pm

During an interview with Yahoo’s Katie Couric today, Bernie Sanders called on a million young Americans to join his political revolution by marching on Washington to demand action from the Republican Congressional leadership.

Video @ link:

Katie Couric asked Sanders how his big ideas would become reality.

Sen. Sanders answered:

I’ll tell you how we do it, and this is where I should tell you that I respect and personally like the President Of The United States very much. He’s a friend, and I think history will record him having done a heck of a lot better job than his contemporaries feel, but this one area where I disagree with Barack Obama. As you remember, in 2008 Obama ran a brilliant campaign, one of the great campaigns in American history. He galvanized the American people. He brought young people together, created an enormous amount of excitement. The mistake that he made is the day after he was inaugurated, in my view, he might not agree with it, but I think it is accurate. He said thank you very much for helping me get elected. I’ll take it from here. I can sit down with John Boehner, and I can sit down with Mitch McConnell. I can sit down with the Republicans. We’re going to negotiate. We’re going to work it out. Well, guess what? From day one, they never wanted to negotiate.

My view is that the only we can bring about an agenda that works for working families is if millions of people are actively involved in the political process. If a million young people march on Washington they tell the Republican leadership, we know what’s going on, and you better vote to deal with student debt. You better vote to make public universities and colleges tuition free, that’s when it will happen.

We’re already seeing that with the minimum wage. Do you know why the minimum wage is going up around the country? Because workers are going out into the street, so we need a political revolution, in my view, where people begin to stand up and fight and take on the big money interests.
If we don’t have that, no president, not the best president in the world will ever be able to accomplish anything.

The idea that the American people can get active and involved is why Republicans are terrified of Bernie Sanders. To the Koch brothers, conservative billionaires, corporations, and Republicans, Bernie Sanders is dangerous. Imagine what would happen if millions of people acted on what Sen. Sanders was suggesting. If one million young people, or millions of people who are buried under student loan debt marched on Washington and continued to march for days and weeks and months, they could change this country.

Bernie Sanders was right. Change is not going to come from electing a president. Real change will come when millions of Americans stand up and fight to take their country back.
In this case, the cause is bigger than the man. Overflow crowds are coming out to see Bernie Sanders because the message has met the correct messenger.

Republicans and their billionaire backers should be worried because the Sanders sparked revolution is growing.

Oh, and if the TPP passes, don't be surprised if the ACA is challenged in an Investor-State Dispute Settlement.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm about 80% behind Obama, but this trade deal he's pushing scares my socks off. It's kind of like a smart bomb, that can be used to break everything that he's built, and I'm utterly mystified that he can 't see that for himself!

....................."Oh, What could have been."

He turned his back and left them standing in the street all during "Teabagger Summer".
Obama's Army milled around for a while, decided that no help was coming from the White House,
and decided they would have to do it themselves,
so they started OWS with the certain knowledge that NO help would come from the White House.

Can you imagine the effect if Obama had called on his Army to:
*go to Connecticut and camp out on Lieberman's yard?
*go to Arkansas, and camp on Lincoln's yard?

Come to Washington, and sit On the Capitol Steps.
He HAD an army that would follow him anywhere,
and this is what he did to the people who would fight for him.

Glad you're here! I'm only five years behind you and I feel the same way you do. It's a shame that only after he's gone (either from the job OR from our midst) will anyone really appreciate all he tried to do.

And yeah, he wasn't perfect. He hasn't been perfect. But THERE IS NO PERFECT!!!!!! You go looking for perfect and you'll be searching til you drop over dead of old age. In my lifetime, no president has done more, or TRIED to do more for the middle class. And at the same time, in my lifetime NO president has been up against this kind of relentless, venomous, virulent, and truly toxic opposition. AND STILL, despite everything, he still has more to show for it than anyone else - with far less obstruction to face Every Damn Day!!!!

His only mistake, I think, was naiveté about what he was facing. He gave his enemies far more respect, and consideration, and wiggle room than they deserved. FAR more. He was careful and respectful and even-handed, and every time he extended his hand, they spit in it. Or they shat on it. He should have known that was coming - but when you're looking for only the good and what CAN be done, you probably aren't wired to see that. He expected that if he fought fair, they would, too. Cuz that's just how it's supposed to be. He should have known better with this bunch of piss-ants and Sore Losermen. He expected adults. What he GOT was a bunch of spoiled, unruly, snot-nosed, entitlement-drunken, tantrum-throwing adult-size five-year-olds.

Thank you calimary. I totally agree. From day one of his first term(a fact I'm sure you know) the despicable GOP was busy planning their agenda: NEVER, EVER, agree with Obama on ANYTHING, period. NEVER give him ANY victories.

In 1968, many progressives stayed home instead of voting for Humphrey because their candidate McCarthy lost in the primaries. Thus Richard Nixon won. Some progressives need to grow up too.

To reiterate what you wrote, no one is perfect. For anyone to fight through all the shit he has had to, to get anything done is amazing. And yet he achieved a lot. Ditto on everything you wrote about the GOP.

Obama was not prepared for the economic meltdown and his appointment of Geithner was the perfect indication of that. Obama had and has a love of style and G must have represented style to him, but Geithner shouldn't have been allowed within 1000 miles of Washington or given any responsibility at all in the handling of the mess that he helped create, maybe an ambassadorship in Outer Mongolia.

But that said, Obama got a lot done in the first couple years when he had Congress with him: Wall Street Reform, Student loan reform (somewhat), credit card reform, the ACA, Fair Pay Act, Expand the GI Bill of Rights, Re-authorized CHIP, made the sentencing for crack and powder cocaine more equitable, helped the 9/11 first responders, ratified the START Treaty, repealed "Don't ask don't tell," cash for clunkers, the stimulus, extended the National Service program, saved GM.

And there was a lot more that he helped with during that time and afterward. So his administration was definitely not a waste of time. Just imagine where we would be now if Romney or McCain had been control. It's significant that since 2010, after Republicans regained control of Congress or enough control to stymie anything the Dems tried to do, not one bill of significance passed. Anything significant has come from the states and continues to come from the states.

Bernie is like a breath of fresh air and new HOPE.

The more attention for his common sense message Bernie gets, the more the "Democracy" movement will grow and become
a strong voice in are currently center right dominated national dialogue.

A good example is "scrap the cap." The discussion on Soc Sec has been dominated so long by corporatists, that the majority of Americans don't even realize there is a simple and just "tweek" to social security which will ensure its benefits to everyone in perpetuity.

More Americans, especially people around my age, have to figure out that it isn't just presidential elections that count. I'm sick of all the emphasis on presidential elections when there are equally-powerful bodies of government. If people continue to look for heroes while not voting in every election, we'll keep on with the current make-up of Congress, and it won't matter which Democrat becomes president.

We've got to win congressional, state, local elections. We exert our will through voting and winning at every possible level. Merely projecting all the country's problems onto the presidency is fantasy.

They're "TERRIFIED" in about the same way as Democrats are "TERRIFIED" about a Sarah Palin run.

They know that marches do nothing. Canvassing does. So the more Democratic activists can be sucked into doing non-productive things, the better it is for Republicans.

think that the MSM and the pundits except for a few have not figured Sanders out yet, and those that have see something, know that he is issues and only issues.

I want to be a part of that something, just like when Bobby Kennedy was running (he went out to the rural countryside in the Appalachians mountains and saw that there was a need to change) and I was going to vote for him....................history said otherwise

Go Bernie

I wonder if the apolitical among the hippies and communes will attempt to undermine this enthusiasm?

You know, some folks wonder if hippie culture and communes were created by The Right Wing, so as to take the wind out of the sails of the anti-war movement of the 60's: http://www.quora.com/Did-the-CIA-create-the-hippie-movement-of-the-1960s

today's right vs left to the 60's.
The anti war movement was not liberal as the word is used today.
The support for the war was not all conservative as the word is used today.
Hippies were non political if IIRC.
They wanted an alternative lifestyle.

You might -- might -- get a million young people to march on DC if the glitch in their X-Box game isn't fixed soon, but I doubt it. A million certainly aren't going to march in DC for some populist oaf. He doesn't scare Republicans at all. But neither does Clinton for that matter.

They don't need any grand marches or radical movement statements. They do need to show up to the polls and vote in much higher numbers...then those things will take care of themselves.

It is time for a real progressive populist movement, but the message needs to be clear and not overly complex and it needs to be repeated over and over to drive it home into the minds of the people.

Then Bernie will win
