John Lewis~ "There is no place for violence in a civilized society."

[img][/img]

Elena Margo Gould "Civilized" must mean there is justice, compassion, and freedom.

John Lewis

WASHINGTON — John Lewis rubs the scar, still visible on his forehead, from the blow of a nightstick as Alabama state troopers assaulted the civil-rights marchers he was leading across the Edmund Pettus Bridge a half-century ago.

"I don't pay it too much attention, but it just reminds me that some of us gave a little blood on that bridge to redeem the soul of America, to make America better," the Georgia congressman says, recalling the day known as Bloody Sunday. "I thought I was going to die on that bridge. I thought it was the last nonviolent protest (of my life), but somehow and some way, I'm still here."

And he sees race as a factor in former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani's comment last week that Obama "doesn't love America" in the same way previous presidents have. "Ever since he's been president, people (have been) trying to take something from him that he's not American, that he was not born here," Lewis says in his distinctive slow, deep cadence. "But we must keep in mind that the scars and stains of racism are still deeply embedded in American society. We have a distance to go. We aren't there yet."

Two men that I admire for their grace and dignity under fire. They have an inner strength that we could only dream to possess. They bear "the scars and stains of racism are still deeply embedded in American society." Yet they keep moving forward.

They keep us moving forward. One step at a time.

You are so kind and generous.

You get angry at the bigotry and filthy hatred? Yes, so do I.

There is a lot of that here.

Ssssh, it is okay, we have each others backs,

That night will be with me forever. I cried, I danced and I felt a gentle calm come over me. I knew he was going to win. I did. I knew.

One of the greatest Representatives ever in the history of the Republic. I would rate him at the top of the list and wish he were my Representative.

For your information, Giuliani posed in a bikini just last week.
So much for his legacy.

What Giuliani said about President Obama was just a desperate act by a failed neocon; one who is quickly fading into the misty background of history.
One of the things that Rudy will be remembered for was the famous comment made about him in 2007 by Vice President Joe Biden --

Giuliani is probably the most under qualified man since George Bush to seek the presidency.
Rudy Giuliani - there's only three things he (needs) to make a sentence: a noun and a verb and 9/11.

Posed in a bikini? Dear goddess, you just made my brain freeze with that image. Make it go away!

You are right about him fading away. He will be known as the man that used a tragedy for his own political gain.

Giuliani is the one that does not love his country very much.

Good to see you, Major~

Could it be said that the most civilized society is that society which operates with the least violence possible in any given situation?
