‘Why take my vibrator?': Michigan cops legally rob ‘every belonging’ from medical marijuana patient

http://www.rawstory.com/2015/05/why-take-my-vibrator-michigan-cops-legally-rob-every-belonging-from-medical-marijuana-patient/

Medical marijuana user Ginnifer Hency told a group of Michigan lawmakers last week that a drug task force raided her home and kept ‘every belonging’ she owned — including her vibrator — even after a judge dismissed the charges against her.

Forbes contributor Jacob Sullum reported last week that Hency testified before the Michigan state House Judiciary Committee about what happened when her home in Smiths Creek was raided last July.

Hency explained that her neurologist had recommended medical marijuana to treat pain associated with multiple sclerosis. She is also registered in the state of Michigan as a caregiver for five other patients, giving her the ability to distribute medical marijuana.

A St. Clair County judge dropped the charges against Hency, but for 10 months law enforcement officials have refused to give back her belongings.

Abuse
Of
Power!!!

These miserable thieves in the St. Clair County DTF need to spend some time in G.P.

OK, I will be humane...protective custody would be OK/

Gin Pace Hency: It's really to bad that the editors at Fox News left so much out of this story. MY story. MY children's story.

The fact St. Clair county DTF also took my children's birth certificates, social security cards, hung my 17 year old daughters underwear from the ceiling fan, pooped in our toilet, peed in our oven, took medical records, squirted lube all over my daughters bookshelf. I was compliant with the medical marijuana act. Which is why my charges were dropped. And they still have my stuff. Civil asset forfeiture laws need to change. And St. Clair County DTF needs to be held accountable for what they did to my family.

She should be able to file a lawsuit against these thugs.

Unfortunately I forsee absolutely ZERO repercussions for the drug task force.

The fucking drug war is out of control. The good news is, the clock is ticking on pot prohibition. The days of cops being able to drag cancer grannies off to prison for smoking a joint, are coming to an end I think.

When one is charged with a crime the prosecution must prove guilty while the person is presumed innocent. Possessions that have been seized by LEO is different, it is presumed guilty until proven innocent. This is an impossible burden to prove, as the legal costs alone often overrun the value of the property.

And in this case it appears the cops are just reinforcing the idea that they are assholes of the 1st order. If I had the power I would charge the police in the raid with larceny and the abuse of power. It appears the whole PD is complicit so perhaps it should be suspended with the state police assuming police duties until appropriate personnel can be vetted and hired.

I know that's not going to happen but something needs to happen soon or no one will trust the police to serve and protect.

The St. Clair County Drug Task Force will use every legal means available to search out and eliminate drug trafficking within St. Clair County. Where evidence is found to point to drugs emanating from another jurisdiction, the Drug Task Force will make every effort to work with other agencies from that jurisdiction to eradicate the flow of illegal drugs into St. Clair County. The officers who comprise the work force of the Drug Task Force will take a proactive approach to policing, using the concept of a totally integrated team effort by all officers. All agencies within St. Clair County will receive enthusiastic support and assistance from the Drug Task Force in their efforts to effectively control and eradicate the social problem of Narcotics trafficking and use.

In December 2014, the federal government ended its prohibition on the use of marijuana for medical purposes in fiscal year 2015 in those states where the use of marijuana had been approved for medical purposes before May 2014 (when the bill to end this prohibition was passed in Congress). Read more in Marijuana FAQs.

Too bad that MS patients that have medical MJ cards do not know about this. It lifts the prohibition on medical MJ use.

It is very sad what people go through that have MS.

I too suffer from horrific pain from this disease and I'm going through hell right now trying to get off the crap drugs they RX for chronic pain which is not fun at all and I find little compassion for my pain and the withdrawal symptoms I am going through right now (why else am I up at 3:25 a.m.?).

I hope this lady gets her rightful justice and no, I could give two hoots about the vibrator, the seemingly sicko focus of this story!

& recommend.

And that is a good thing, as it helps bring attention to the abuses of civil forfeiture.

There's simply no way to spin that as following proper police procedure.

But I suppose that since there's no video, easy enough to claim it never happened...

These petty, filthy thugs think that it is there business persecuting someone like this and justify all of their actions and their abuse of power. There needs to be a massive culture shift in police activity that could only be aided by a few mass firings at this point.
