WASHINGTON -- Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) isnt running for president. And one of the main groups created to encourage her to run for president will soon stop running, too.
Run Warren Run, the collaborative effort by progressive organizations to show Warren that she had supporters, commitment and money for a 2016 presidential bid, will suspend operations on June 8. Time, political winds, and, in all likelihood, Bernie Sanders were the culprits.
Over the last six months, from our perspective, the possibility of Warren running has had a transformative effect on the political debate in that it has elevated Warrens fight into something more than moment to moment legislative battles, said Ben Wikler, Washington director of MoveOn.org, one of the groups behind Run Warren Run. Do we wish she were running? Absolutely. Do we wish we had not tried to get her to run? Not in the slightest.

(14,255 posts)Elizabeth end up endorsing Hillary, I would certainly understand political expediency and all that - but will still be voting for Bernie.
My head will not explode, my hair will not burst into flames, or any other of the oddly war-like injurious stuff that is wished or projected upon supporters of Warren or Bernie. Just will not support Hillary; my vote is not anyone's to award to anyone else.

(1,321 posts)A lunch pal of mine, a PhD, university professor, refuses to vote. I engage him about it, but no rationale is given.
It's not that he's concerned about privacy. Effin' mystery? Know anyone like this? Do they ever say why?

Not that I really care now. MoveOn is really full of it.
P.S.: What happens to the money?

(7,830 posts)And presidential candidates Hillary Clinton, Martin O'Malley and Bernie Sanders are all listening.
When we launched Run Warren Run, prominent Democratic operatives were telling the media that, to win the race for the White House, Hillary Clinton would need to run a centrist campaign focused on "fixing the gridlock in Washington." In fact, when Hillary Clinton's campaign launched last month, her primary message wasn't about gridlock at all -- instead Clinton echoed Elizabeth Warren, saying she was running for president to fix an economy in which "the deck is still stacked in favor of those at the top."
Meanwhile, in his announcement speech on Saturday, Martin O'Malley promoted big ideas straight from the Warren Wing like calling for Wall Street accountability, including the jailing of bankers who have broken the law. And Bernie Sanders, to the surprise of some in the mainstream media -- but not to us -- is standing out early in his campaign by fearlessly running on his long and impressive record of fighting for populist progressive priorities.
Let's be clear: We would still love it if Elizabeth Warren would change her mind and run for president. And if she does, we will be right there with her. The grassroots network we've built is strong and we will pull this campaign out of suspension at any time to support a Warren candidacy.
But now that we've demonstrated that Elizabeth Warren can run and win, it's time to help her fight to build an economy and a country that works for everyone, not just the wealthy -- and to elect Warren Wing champions up and down the ballot.
The rise of Elizabeth Warren, the effort to draft her for president, and the surging progressive spirit of the 2016 Democratic field and electorate are all important by themselves -- but ultimately, theyre all tremors presaging a much deeper tectonic shift in American politics. Just as the progressive movement and New Deal set the stage for the rise of the great American middle class a century ago, we're due for a profound political reckoning that restores our founders' dream of government by and for the people.
No one candidate can deliver that. It's up to all of us.
Thanks for your support over the last six months. If you have thoughts about Run Warren Run, our decision to suspend the campaign, or what's next for the DFA community, please click "reply" on this email and share your feedback with us. We can't wait to hear from you.
