Casebolt was in "The Happiest Place On Earth."

Sorry. After watching the video of this Napoleonic asshole, it seems clear that his reaction was just out of sheer joy. He finally got his E-Ticket to mayhem. A bunch of crazy black kids which he knew were all unarmed, while he had guns and tazers and mace. He busted a nut of power. After years of languishing in his small-town Texas police department, he was now THE MAN. He was taking charge.

Honestly, I think that is why he resigned. I think he had a catharsis, a realization that "holy fuck, what am I doing?" He wrestled a 15 year old mostly-naked girl to the ground and drew a gun on her friends. For a pool party.

Maybe I'm giving him too much credit for introspection...but I kinda think he finally realized that this isn't really the line of work he wanted to be in. He's not cut out for it. A year off in a cabin in the woods drawing pictures and writing down deep thoughts...that is what Casebolt needs.

A caller opined that by resigning instead of being investigated and fired, his record would be clean and he could apply at another police department with no problems. So he will be recycled back into the system ready to terrorize black kids again.

Especially in Texas. He fought the thugs. You go, Casebolt! Never mind that they were mostly half-naked children who posed absolutely no threat to Casebolt. If he doesn't get a job in a neighboring town, he'll get a gig on Fox "News."

is something I know really well. Throw in a little PTSD (or a lot, if he's ex military) and it's a recipe for disaster.

It's obvious why the black kids ran when he showed up, they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that when the cops show up, the most peaceful situation will likely turn violent.

The cops acted like bigots, probably because the old bigot who called them told them a bunch of n**s had crashed the neighborhood pool. She had no clue they were all invited guests and that the kids who invited them were members because, like all bigots, she is incapable of listening to anyone but herself.

This was likely the incident that told him he'd reached the end of the line in the police profession, that it's time either to be a department desk jockey or find another line of work, possibly home security assessments or the like.

The bigot who made the call is the one who belongs in jail. Seabolt belongs out of the cop business--and is. The kids learned that what their parents told them is true about race in this country, especially when it comes to the cops. It really sucks to have to learn this lesson, but it might keep some of them alive down the line.

i fuckin hate cops.
at best they're a necessary evil.
i agree with everything you just said..i hope this guy either changes professions or takes some downtime to get his issues sorted out.

that said...and i can't believe i'm actually saying this...the PD on the whole is handling this much better than i was expecting.

I'd be really impressed if they hauled in the bigot who made the phone call for a little talk.

I don't hate them across the board, I knew too many of them while I was working as a nurse, either as patients or guarding a patient. I only knew one who was a total asshole and he was already off the force.

The cop who lost it was showing signs of total job burnout. He really does need to stay off the force for now, probably permanently.

I believe he will not change and felt he did nothing wrong.

I further believe he will move two suburbs over and get another job as a cop.

whatever else he gets after 10 yrs, as opposed to losing it all when terminated.

I think he got out before they could look at him too closely; the guy had issues already back in '08. He's one of those people (and there are a lot of them) that just shouldn't be a cop. Somehow it seems that people like that gravitate to that profession, however. Which is a shame for everybody, including them.
