Hope Solo's lingering domestic abuse issues are more than worthy of her suspension from the Women's World Cup. Keith explains.

(16,399 posts)And the victims are speaking out, saying she is lying.
Yet when an NFL player is merely arrested, the calls for suspension are immediate.
What is different about this case? Hmmm.

That's why she skated (if you'll pardon the expression) -- and that's why I don't see this case getting reopened.
The "procedural grounds" on which the case was dismissed had to to with the sister and her son not cooperating with the investigation. According to Solo's lawyer: "Police reports and other court documents clearly demonstrate that the alleged victims radically changed their stories on multiple occasions and twice refused to answer questions under oath, despite court orders."
And why would they "choose" to "let it go"? Most likely because the nephew would have been charged, too, as a mutual combatant: if he really is six feet nine and 280 pounds, I doubt he could convince a jury that he couldn't defend himself against Solo unless she had a gun. As for the league, punishing her for misuse of league property is one thing, but they may be loath to take any action in the absence of an actual indictment, World Cup or not.
