Pastor Steven Anderson, who predicted an AIDS-free Christmas if all LGBT people were put to death, explained to his congregation at Faithful Word Baptist Church that it was not wrong to pray for the deaths of your enemies like he had done for President Barack Obama.
Anderson preached Sunday that he had seen Jenners filthy sodomite picture everywhere after the Olympic athlete and reality TV star completed gender transition.
Id never even heard of him until this week, Anderson said. Bruce Jenner has basically mutilated his body, apparently, and hes being praised by our president. Our President Obama is praising him, or praising her we dont even know what it is. I think that (Obama) used the female pronoun about somebody named Bruce.
He said the president was praising the wicked, and he said this trans freak was being crammed down the throat of literally hundreds of millions of people.
This person is just the evangelist of sodomy and filth to the world, and people are like, Oh, we need to pray for him so that he finds Jesus, Anderson said. Im going to pray that he dies and goes to Hell.

Making outrageous threats like this should get people a visit from the cops, at the very least, but it won't because god.

Probably not - but shouldn't somebody call them out for their falsehood BEFORE they hurt someone or encourage a sheep to do it for them?

(42,641 posts)That is why they do not leave that church. But like the Westboro Baptist Church, most of these churches have very small congregations. People who hate others seem to generally seek out fellow haters to associate with.

(37,748 posts)We often find other churches, too... churches that stay out of the news as they're not well, very newsworthy (unless left-over meatloaves and pabst beers during the softball games in the evening become newsorthy).
But... no true Scotsman or something or other.

(1,980 posts)It's a veil for hate. Maybe, maybe, it makes sense when dealing with actual evil, but it's idiotic when applied to LGBT. It's just fundamentally irrational to claim that a naturally occurring part of life is somehow evil. It boggles the mind to hear someone claim God is good, God made us all, and God says it's wrong to be gay. Logically, you can't have all three. I know logic plays no role in it, but I'm fundamentally hopeful that people will at least try to think through their prejudices and overcome them.

I do recall that he warned that might happen to those who failed to help the poor and the sick and the helpless, though - but did not mention "sodomites." Maybe this guy needs to go back and have another good look at his New Testament, especially Matthew 25.
...Although I suspect he's worked himself up into a frenzied froth of "righteous" hate that nothing but a whopping dose of thorazine could affect.

Cities that neither "receive" the disciples nor "hear" their words will be destroyed by God. It will be worse for them than for Sodom and Gomorrah. And you know what God supposedly did to those poor folks (see Gen 19:24). Matthew 10:14-15

You have to wonder if the doctor had some Jewish ancestry, or he just had a killer sense of humor.

(3,660 posts)If no-one who is Christian can hate than all people who hate are not Christians, which is a vicious insult to the rest of us, and proven false by the preponderance of Christians in jail, the driving force of Christianity behind homophobia, misogyny and racism in the US, the theocratic aims of the hateful Republican party, and the non-stop preaching of hate from pulpits across the world and especially here.
Christianity is in its basic sense nothing more than a belief in the salvific divinity of Christ. All doctrinal and political differences are merely subsets. Christian is not a synonym for nice person, and anyone who suggests thatit is is a bigoted asshole who wants to portray non-Christians as by defintion vile people.
