(269,365 posts)tools. Never will I forget Alito's wife and her Oscar performance to distract from all the reasons why he should never have been near that court. I won't waste words on Thomas - he should be impeached. Scalia is a fascist with no understanding of separation of church and state.

Megyn Kelly claimed that during Justice Samuel Alito's confirmation hearing, his wife, Martha-Ann, was "crying hysterically after Ted Kennedy made her cry." In fact, Martha-Ann Alito broke down in tears during a series of questions and comments by Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham.

(7,638 posts)Since Roberts stuck his neck out the first time to rescue the ACA from being gutted over the argument about whether the fees were fees or taxes.
There is still a possibility however, which would be bad, that they say, well, its fine as it is but please have congress pass a law to clarify the intent. Of course, with the teabaggers in the house, it will never happen so that would torpedo the ACA and the supreme court could wash their hands of it.

(82,849 posts)But how about this: A $10 donation to DU? If the Supremes don't say "The card says 'Moops'!", I'll send $10 to DU. If the Supremes decide once again to join the Republicans in destroying the country, you send DU ten bucks.
Deal?
On edit: I will be very glad to lose this bet.

(2,893 posts)I'm pushing 60 and went without insurance due to jobs with no benefits and pre-existing conditions and low income for nearly 7 years...have decent insurance now through the Federal Exchange but could not afford it without the subsidy. Like someone said a few years back, the Republican health plan is: if you get sick, die fast....

(81,612 posts)Glad you're here. We're all gritting our teeth and crossing our fingers. I can't believe they'd decide to strip millions of Americans from health insurance they can FINALLY afford. I can't believe they'd do that. But they've sure done plenty of other bad moves in their day. If Katie Couric or some other network interviewer ever asked me what high court ruling I ever disagreed with, I'd have to start with - "got a few minutes?"

(24,673 posts)Doing without medical treatment is a get sick, die fast plan, but when uninsured, many of us fall into that. I am now on medicare and wish it was available to everyone.

(7,987 posts)59, temp worker (after being downsized out of the middle class) and refused coverage because of Type II diabetes. After reading some of the posts who agree with the OP because the Supremes believe gutting the ACA will hurt the Repubs I see their point. I can only hope they're right-we all know they wouldn't just instinctively do the right thing. There's a lot of us in the the same boat-I just pray it isn't the Titantic. I was thinking about this today at work and someone asked me if something was wrong. I just shook my head because I feel so powerless.

(81,612 posts)"piece-of-shit country" - I think this was in reference to reagan's ridiculous crusade in Grenada. More like a charade in Grenada, almost. But it was a quote from someone talking defense policy at a fairly high level of stature - and extolling the foreign policy strategy of kicking the crap out of some little pipsqueak "piece of shit" country, I think was the term used. The reason for this? To show off the balls of the U.S. Remind everybody who's boss. Strut our national stuff and shove that "American Exceptionalism" crap down their throats. Declare "Mine's BIGGER." "WE'RE Number One!" Go ahead and swagger and be arrogant. After all, we're entitled!!
Now, I do NOT think that's the world's greatest method for making friends and influencing people!

(3,811 posts)The language in the state exchange provision was crystal clear. I can't see any of the conservatives arguing otherwise. On the other hand, the results would be so catastrophically awful for so many people...maybe one of them will do what's morally right instead of what's technically right.
