Right Wing Pundit: Millions Will Flee America – Calls For Secession Over Gay Marriage

http://samuel-warde.com/2015/06/right-wing-pundit-millions-will-flee-america-calls-secession-gay-marriage/

Every time the right-wing loons feel as though things in this country are changing or not going their way, they throw a hissy fit and threaten to leave. Not that anyone would stop them. After all, they’ve been a complete obstacle to social progress for several decades while benefiting the most from the social programs they claim to despise. They make a lot of noise about liberty and freedom, railing about government spending, receiving the most from government payouts and sticking blue states with the bill. They are, in essence, the Welfare Queens, so they should secede already.

Joseph Farah, founder of WorldNetDaily, the one stop shop for right-wing lunacy, provided the latest sample of secessionist whining when he sent out an all-points bulletin to governors last week suggesting that they secede from the union if SCOTUS rules against state bans of same-sex marriage.

As is usually the case with literary works such as these, it is ripe with baseless claims, misinterpretations of all referenced texts and void of reason, logic, fact, and common sense. It is one more self-appointed pundit prone to bloviation and nonsense....

Farah’s not the first guy to come up with the idea of secession. Every time some wing nut doesn’t like something, they start threatening to secede. Furthermore, should the Supreme Court strike down state bans on same-sex marriage it wouldn’t mean that same-sex marriage is a “right.” It would mean that SCOTUS would have ruled that all people, including the LGBT community are deemed equal in the eyes of the court, are entitled to civil liberties, and therefore able to marry. It would be American.

They could go to Saudia Arabia. They could go to Afghanistan. They could go to Iran. Those countries don't have marriage equality. I'm all for sending these folks there.

28. Question ...
Fri Jun 12, 2015, 07:20 PM
Jun 2015

Are Social Security Payments and Medicare/Medicaid benefits portable outside of the U.S. ... If not, I suspect the vast majority of those threatening to secede won't be going anywhere.

Second thought ...

If millions go, just think about the economy ... unemployment will drop to near zero, as people will fill the newly vacated positions and Red states (where these folks seem to congregate) will become purplish, if not Blue, meaning crazy fiscal and social policies will become less crazy.

I thought about that after I posted. I have a buddy that is living pretty well in an "American Hamlet" in Costa Rica on his SS check and they just built a medical clinic/hospital just outside the gates.

But he says he doesn't know how much longer he'll be living there because, true to American tradition ... they treat the people they surplanted like crap, and therefore, are not well liked.

39. Somalia would be a good choice.
Fri Jun 12, 2015, 10:20 PM
Jun 2015

Somalia meets the basic criterion of not recognizing same-sex marriage. It goes the extra mile of criminalizing sexual intercourse with a person of the same sex (penalty: up to three years' imprisonment).

On top of all that, its long civil war left it with little to no functioning government, and hence no burdensome left-wing policies. (I'm guessing that, in the U.S., there's a strong correlation between homophobes and opponents of the safety net, so this should be a plus for them.) It's true that Somalia is starting to recover and is now only second on the Fragile States Index (trailing South Sudan), but it's still pretty far from the reach of any of those damn libruls.
