Why did Obama push this Trade Deal?

Every thing I've read shows it is a flawed Pact that will hurt working Americans. Obviously the Dems in Congress agree.

Should i just be cynical and think it was about Big Money behind him to get it passed?

Did he think this was the best we could do and it would be better than no deal?

Did he truly think it would deliver the results he says, even though there has been considerable argument it wouldn't?

I'm not sure. What do you think.

Hell be worth $100m just like Bill, mostly from collecting speaking fees. Big corporations get very generous with those fees when a president pushes something like the TPP.

Look what Bill got for the Glass-Steagall repeal

In other words, I don't think he would ever sell us out. He's just wrong.

I don't recall if it was consortiumnews or counterpunch or who the author was but the interpretation and justification were clear.
It was based on quotes from his books that stated without being ambiguous that he was a true believer in "free market capitalism".
His association with the FIRE industries and his appointments as economic advisers pretty much confirmed that.

and all the Christian crazies before 2008 , as I wrote about on my blog. Which is why I didn't vote for him in 2008. Not to mention the primaries back then and the GOP-tactics his camp used.

I held my nose in 2012 in an attempt to keep the GOP at bay, but he seems to be more GOP-lite than ever.

Won't miss him at all....

However, I may have to hold my nose again this time, but it has to be done because right now in time, the GOP is insane and we need the Supreme Court to not go totally down the tubes..

And this isn't the only time that side of him has shown through.

He told us himself that he was the equivalent of a moderate Republican from the 1980's. This is the kind of thing they supported.

This has nothing do to with where Obama's heart lies, since none of us will ever know that. Even if he personally opposes TPP, I think he's been told to make sure it passes or else. This legislation is huge and will push us further towards a global economy so I don't think he is a decision maker in this case.

Hillary got on the campaign trail and had to sell it. Yes, the GOP wants it too, but that would not stop them from using sock puppets pacs to play "progressive" and hit her with attacks ads, especially as Ralph Nader is stumping for Rand Paul.

A lot of people think that on balance the trade deal will be bad for America, but a lot think it will be good. It's mainly (although not exclusively) on the far left where it's an article of faith that NAFTA and TPP are the work of the devil.

Here, for example, is a well-written article defending it. I have no idea if it's right, but it's certainly not obviously daft.

"First, even if it’s secret now, there’s not going to be any hidden codicils or agreements," Posen says, referring to the fact that Congress will be presented with a final copy of the TPP trade deal to vote up or down. "Everything will be revealed. When the US Congress and counterparts in other countries get to look at the deal, there will be nothing hidden. And even now, people pretty much know what’s in this deal, if they want to.

"The other thing is, just like in congressional negotiations or labor negotiations, you don’t do all the negotiating in public because you want people to be able to hold their opinions, try ideas out, speculate. That’s how negotiations get done in the real world. If you make them transparent from day one there can be no deal, for the most part, because people can’t have every position flying through the press."

The why is it secret line is nonsense and makes me discount most of what critics have to say about it.
