(17,111 posts)My gallbladder was removed but I have massive reserves of gall to use.
I am sore but not unbearably.
I can't any of the great Southern food I love. I think I can graze in the yard and catch rainwater.
The kittehs are helping, but I have to make sure they don't jump. My brother spent the night and I think they are still recovering. He has 4 cats but they stayed with me all night and periodically checked on him. I think they will warm up to him, but those 2 want to be very sure about him.
malaise
(269,352 posts)They check them out carefully - that is funny.
I take it that the Southern food restrictions are temporary? I freaking hope so.

(17,111 posts)I'll need stop od'ing on the stuff when I can eat. I will just have to see how my body reacts to different things.
Seriously though, I do need to lose weight and this may be the spark I needed to really get going.
malaise
(269,352 posts)That said, abandon white sugar and white flour and replace with brown sugar and whole wheat flour and exercise - try and walk 10K a week and stretch your body at least three times a week.

(9,474 posts)Friend of mine here had her gallbladder out last week, and she's back at full speed now. First 3 days were not so hot, but after that she was feeling much better. I had to take extra "sympathy" in solidarity with her. LOL!
Seriously, just take it easy, and lay off the fried food for awhile. I know, fate worse than death for a true Southerner!

(4,106 posts)Believe it or not after my body recovered I had no problem with southern food. Eat fried chicken from KFC..lol
It will just take time so go easy in the beginning and keep some pepto near you. Eat grits.. Surgery went rather well so that makes healing time less. Hang in there.

(20,219 posts)Eat whatever I want. If I occasionally feel crud-stomach like, "wth is that messed up gall bladder doing back here?", I take digestive enzymes.
Get the kind that contain many different enzymes, and especially Lipase, which breaks down fats.
Get well soon!

Ghost in the Machine
(14,912 posts)in a little town called Mechanicsville for about 6 months, and it was a non-stop party. I also lived in Ellenboro, NC for about 7 months, but was 12 at the time and don't remember ever hearing it then.
We just got power back after a 3.5 hr planned outage....
Glad to see you posting again!
Peace,

(17,111 posts)Darlington and Mechanicsville. I have a cousin over there too who tells great stories.
She worked a booth at the races that sold merchandise a couple of times. Her tales of that adventure are priceless.
If people want to see a fairly large and 'interesting' group in American society, they ought to work a race booth AND ride a Greyhound for several days. Most are decent, but they are invisible to many.
Ghost in the Machine
(14,912 posts)but it was about 10 -12 miles from the Pee Dee River. We used to ride our motorcycles down that road at night, running about 120mph... NO HELMETS... and deer could have jumped across the road at any time. I look back and wonder how I survived it. This was back in '91...
I usually just say Darlington because most people don't know where Florence is, but it was outside of Florence too... one road took us into Florence, the other into Darlington.
The last time I was there was in 1999. I was doing a roofing job on a new school in Lake City, and took a ride after work one day to see if anyone was still around where I used to live. I pulled up to the house behind where I used to live, because we basically shared a back yard there and had a pig roast almost every weekend. Lo and behold, there was ol' Junior Watford standing in the yard. It took a second for him to recognize me, probably because we were both sober and I hadn't been there in 8 years, but I got out and we talked for a couple of hours.
Peace,
Ghost
Are_grits_groceries
(17,111 posts)you can go all over the place. Most of my relatives live in Southern Florence county. Same type of people and terrain.
Love the pig pickings that spring up.
I don't know how my cousins and I survived half of what we did.
Ghost in the Machine
(14,912 posts)a pig farm and that is where we got one from almost every week. We only paid $20 - $25 for them and would clean and prep them ourselves. The neighbor had a HUGE smoker that he fabricated himself and we could fit 2 pigs on there. We'd get and dress the pig on a thursday, keep it packed with ice to cool it down, and start it late friday afternoon or early evening. By saturday afternoon, we were eating "high on the hog" lol. Other neighbors would come over, as well as friends from around town. NOBODY went hungry, and we would keep the party going until sunday evening. That wasn't bad for $20 - $25! Of course we had other expenses too... we'd make about 20 pounds of slaw and 20 pounds of potato salad... and of course the kegs/cases of beer, but everyone chipped in on that and people brought their own beer and/or side dishes. A good time was had by all and the best part was, even with all of the alcohol, there were never any fights or arguments.... just good people having a good time.
Peace,
Ghost
