Friday evening update for Tiger Tim
A good afternoon. We went to visit Tiger Tim today at Animal Specialty Center, and we can't believe how much better he looks. He seems to have gained back a bit of weight and he is far livelier. He is even eating on his own - not much, but enough to make us happy. We got him his favorite dry food, but to our delight, we were told that he was nibbling at the wet food the staff was encouraging him to eat. Nibbling thoughtfully, as if pondering every mouthful, and leaving a lot behind - but he is eating.
Best of all, we got one solid bit of good news. Now, remember, we will not know for sure what Tiger Tim has until we get the biopsy results, and he is still not out of the woods. But the cytology report came back for the fluid tapped from his lung and it had one encouraging sentence: "No evidence of sepsis or neoplasia is identified."
Translated, this means there are no signs of cancer in the fluid.
We can't start celebrating yet, but - how can we put it? - our cautious optimism is a bit more optimistic this evening.

(16,327 posts)I can personally attest that kitteh comebacks happen.
My Mom's black cat Charlie was taken to the vet with lack of appetite, labored breathing, and an enlarged abdomen. The blood work-up showed nothing obvious but there was fluid in his abdominal cavity and surrounding his lungs. They pulled a butt-load of fluid out which improved his breathing, but he was still not eating and they said that what was causing the fluid was most likely something fatal, like a cancer. We were told the best thing to do was to have him euthanized. We went to the pet hospital to be there with him when it happened. When they brought him into the room he jumped out of the Dr.'s arms and ran to us and started rubbing up against us and purring -- the Dr. said it we didn't have to do it right that second and would be OK for us to take him home for the weekend to say goodbye then bring him back on Monday to do the deed. We decided to take him home.
That was three years ago.
He's fine. Whatever had caused the fluid build-up was a one-time event, he is as healthy as a horse and spends every day in the neighbor's yard enjoying the sun and hunting mice.
Drs. can sometimes think they know everything, but sometimes -- just sometimes - they don't. And sometimes kittehs just decide that it is not their time and surprise us all.
I hope Tiger pulls through and finds the forever home he deserves.
