In listening to Hillary's speech today, I was struck by the fact that I have now heard so much about her mother, just as I heard so much about Bill Clinton's mother and Obama's mother. And yet, not ONE of the current Republican candidates has (to my knowledge) said one word about their mothers...I realize that Jeb has a very good reason not to reference good ole Bar ("rhymes with rich" but we've heard zilch about the moms of all the other repukes.
It would seem to me that if these Republicans really, really want to win in 2016, they might consider having a few words about their inspiring mothers...(I am giving Cruz a pass as I think he was a hatchling from outer space sometimes).

(63,932 posts)but I thought they might have learned something from the last two go arounds where they got pretty much whipped in the GE by women voters...don't they have well paid handlers to tell them that they have to pander to women and minorities?

(63,932 posts)influences in people's lives are important and why not talk about what those influences are? It speaks to what values you learned at a young age and what made you what you are today.
I see nothing wrong in talking about those influences....

(82,383 posts)They are more likely to reference their fathers. Those wimmins stay home and cook and aren't role models - to them.
re Cruz.

(27,711 posts)Regarding Motherfuckers (Republican Edition):
Here's something one hopes the Obama administration has learned from the past couple of days: You need to expect that motherfuckers will fuck their mothers. It's just what motherfuckers do. They fuck their mothers. It's right there in the word. If you put John Boehner's mother in front of him, he will fuck her. Because he is a motherfucker. It's what he knows. It's what all Republicans know. It's their nature.

In GOP-land, women folk are to be seen but not heard, let alone be credited for anything but obeying.
