I am stunned at his death.

Very sad to learn this. Always read and like his posts and comments.

(3,732 posts)Just like XChrom - these were both really good people.
I will miss Jackpine's Fringe Candidate sig, too.

(242 posts)All I know that he died at home, on June 11th.
No indication on COD, hopefully we'll find out soon.
Yes, I agree 70 is young, and my dad passed away at the age of 66.
I know a lot of people who are past 85 and very active.

(5,141 posts)...and my next-door neighbors father is on his way as we speak for his yearly visit to NY from Italy as we speak...hell be 100 in January. His favorite thing to do whilst here is pottering around the garden, harvesting veg and pulling weeds, then repairing on the front porch with a big ol glass of wine.
Seventy is very young to pass away. Especially when one is endowed with intellect and humor as JackpineRadical surely was.
RIP.

(269,328 posts)so it may have been a sudden death. This is just too sad - after Xchrom and JeffR - there is too much grief here at DU.

Of course many of us aren't that young anymore so this will be part of life.
The suddenness of Jackpine's passing is what hit me here.
Both the funeral home page and a brief obit line in a local newspaper say only that he died at home on June 11. No info on cause of death.

(73,709 posts)I keep coming back to my computer, as if I'll find that a mistake was made.
But each time, I get the same answer. Then I walk away again, soon to start the process over again.

(20,219 posts)That it's hard on many men...and not wanting to lose Carla...
Later in the thread he made a brief but wistful (I thought) comment to someone else about life and loss. Foreshadowing? We can never know, I guess..... http://www.democraticunderground.com/10026779017
I...I'm...it's....I can't wrap my head around this. I just really really looked up to him. I liked him a lot. A true good guy. So brilliant and kind hearted.
Poor Carla...

(37,573 posts)as much warning as possible. Did he know on Tuesday that he would die on Saturday? Or that he might (actually any of us can go at any time for any number of reasons).
xchrom was only 61. Not exactly young, but if I am gonna die at 61 I'd like to know now, because I could quit the stupid job I am about to head to. I could give Lyric $500 instead of just $5.
Just another reminder that we should make today count as much as we can.

(26,514 posts)real name you didn't even know until now? If so I guess I'm a giant cornball. He seemed like a great man. I don't think anyone's death in 14 years of being here since I was in my 20s has touched me so. If I'm wrong about the afterlife. Maybe we'll get to meet after all.
